Then why flame me for doing just that? A yea 22 funerals may "means nothing" to you...but those are 22 people close to me that I will never see again...and yet you sit there and call me not compassionate. Oh well some people are just more uptight than others...sorry for your losses...hopefully you will respect mine.
Re: Hurricane snake survival kit
it has nothing to do for lack of respect of cared/loved ones loss. my point was everyone has experienced losses in their lives and they leave a lasting impression on everyone around them.. not everyone has experienced a major hurricane or other disaster disabaling their hometown, just as i have respect for people who have gone through earthquakes and tornados because ive been fortunate enough to not have to go through either of them. if you havnt gone through the stresses and hardship of that then you cant understand, so instead people make jokes, make it out to be no big deal. that was my point. it was in no way discounting your losses.
hopefully this thread can get back to what it was intended for, educating people on how to be prepared for when/if they have to go through a hurricane. my thoughts and prayers are with those who are in the path of dean.

Hey, not to break up the debate on sensitivies...
I remembered that you MUST pack water dishes!! Almost forgot that one. A lot of folks pack the water, but especially with multiple pets, you need dishes. Even the cheap(almost free) deli cups for temp dishes in evacuation cases will be godsends.
Re: Hurricane snake survival kit
What about medications etc ? Neosporin and the like without the pain killers??
Re: Hurricane snake survival kit
These may be stupid questions, but here I go....
Why keep extra water dishes? Normally I clean my water dishes everytime I give them water everyday. What is the purpose of having extra water dishes? I have two reptiles.
What about heating? I have a cornsnake and a leopard gecko. Both require temps above the ambient temperature in my house. I was thinking of getting a backup battery from Best Buy that runs a computer for about 8 hours? How long will that run heat lamps? It says 4 hours for regular desk lamp. What other things can I do for heat?
Since I live in Virginia, we normally only get the 'leftovers' of hurricanes but sometimes we get pretty bad ones (Isabel) and lose power for weeks (2). Would it be a good idea to get some tubs in case we have to go stay with friends?
Why extra hides?
Re: Hurricane snake survival kit
My water dish comment was for evacuation plans, not for at home. Sorry I didn't make that clearer.
I dunno about there, but here, the problem is overheating if we lose power. I think you might want to check the power consumption of lights and heatpads to see what uses less.
I'd guess extra hides would also be for evacuation, I don't know. I think tubs would be a good idea to have on hand. They won't take up much space, and be right there ready to go if you do need to move them to a friend's house.

If your at home you don't need extra hides,or water bowls!
Incase they get soiled, etc, because sometimes your not near a sink, or water source to wash your hides off with.
Extra tubs are needed in EVERY case, hurricane or not. There isn't mutch you can do for heat. Except find a generator, badderys, etc to power your heat source. Heat packs too! Lots and lots of them, but be carful they can get hot for herps. Hope it helps.

I must say this argument really seems to bite itself right in the butt. 22 funerals means nothing? Clearly this guy was simply trying to illustrate why he would be casual about these matters. He is. You're not. To each their own.
You telling him 22 funerals (esp. at age 20... that's more than one a year!) mean nothing is ... just as bad (if not worse considering your reaction to his initial statement and the fact that he was speaking generally when you took offense and you spoke directly to him when your offensive statemet was made)
Sorry if this post has already gone back on topic. I was reading through the thread and stopped to reply when i got to that part. I'll be on my way now.
