Seems this man comes here gives helpful advice and knowing he has been breeding for years should help support the advice he is giving.
I didn't read anywhere that he was trying to make a sell.
I don't believe he sells vermiculite so it was helpful advice that this guy does not need to buy expensive hatchrite that vermiculite works great also.
He seemed to be helping a fellow breeder when you start flaming him on a thread thats not even one you started.

Looks like you completely took Jamie's response the wrong way, it happens, no big deal. Life rolls on! :)

WOW did i start a selling war...got to love it. so Jon i know hatchrite is expensive and yes Jamie it should be one of the more simple parts of breeding, but i ask you a question, if it was your first clutch would you try to mix your own not knowing if you added to much water or to little since you have never had any hands on before? i have read the directions but those dont always work ( ask Meme about her trip to 8ball ( yes i know those were driving directions work with me) so Jamie would you like to show me how to make the correct mixture? i will buy the materials and bring them to you and we can do a workshop.

edit: and forgot to add only expecting one clutch if she goes, she has fooled me before this year

I mixed it for my first clutch and it worked out fine. My question would be, if you don't do it this year, how will you be any more comfortable doing it next year? I would be happy to help as best I can to get the mixture right for you. Its not very difficult at all and as long as its not too wet, you can't go wrong. Its probably a good idea to get a small bag of coarse vermiculite and make up a couple batches (make sure you don't buy the stuff from Lowes or HD, it is way too fine). Feel free to call me any time to talk about it!

ok just re-read what i wrote...didnt mean to come off as much as an (blank) as i did sorry. the adding the water part is what freaks me out. i am willing to pay the extra few dollars for hatchrite with only one clutch but i do need to learn how to mix it. can you give me the exact name of what i should pick up? i will pick some up and do some test runs

You want to get coarse cut vermiculite. You can probably find it at any garden store. It will look more like this:

    than this:

I tried to use the fine stuff this year from Home Depot (lack of preparation) and wasn't happy with it. It doesn't hold the water as well and you end up with a wetter (always bad) mixture using the same amount of water as with the coarse.

EDIT: I noticed when I look at the pictures side by side, its not as evident as it should be. Just make sure you buy coarse vermiculite. Do a search online and you can find it. www.reptiletubs.com has small bags too as do some other reptile supply places.
