    So sorry for your loss Emily :( . It's hard to lose any animal, but the ones that you put your heart into are the hardest of all. I applaud you for putting so much effort into her welfare.

    thank you all so much for your kind words. it really has helped me to feel a little better about things.

    i was so happy with her finally eating on her own and gaining weight. she hadn't gotten any new scale rot spots in a few months and almost all of the old areas were healed up and no longer required any treatment other than just being careful about any dampness in the enclosure. it seemed like she was really starting to pick up, but i definitely didn't want her to suffer or be in pain so in the end i guess this is best and what mother nature intended.

    the vet guessed at some sort of immune system deficiency as several of you have mentioned as a possibility for her problems. in hindsight i probably should have taken her for a necropsy but that night i put her in the freezer to preserve her until i could bury her, so that is now out of the question. :hmm:
