Re: F/T Rodents: dry or wet?
eeew, wet rodent! i thaw mine inside a plastic bag in hot water. sometimes they still get wet and i press a papertowel on them to dry them. i dunno, something about them being all sopping wet just doesn't go over so well for me.
Re: F/T Rodents: dry or wet?
I place mine in a plastic bag and thaw them in really hot water. Yeah mine get a little wet too. But nothing a hair dryer wont fix
I have never thought about feeding my snake a wet mouse/rat......
Re: F/T Rodents: dry or wet?
I put mine in the refrigerator the night before (giving about 20 hours to thaw). Then just before feeding, I run hot water (120F) over the mouse from the tap for about two minutes. then I pat dry with paper towels -- still quite wet. Then with bambo tongs I wave the mouse in front of fluffy's hide - BAM thats it.
I am going to have to get some small rats. He is now getting too big for adult mouses (oops, I mean mice).:D
Re: F/T Rodents: dry or wet?
My snakes who take f/t don't care if their rat or mouse is wet or dry.
Re: F/T Rodents: dry or wet?
I thaw them a day or so in the fridge, but to warm 'em up, or to thaw the pinks and fuzzies, I use hot water. Now that I have 23, it's just easier to grab 'em out of the hot water, make sure they're completely warm and feed 'em. If I pat 'em dry or handle them, I have a couple snakes that are picky enough, they won't eat them, or the prey ends up too cool, and I have to reheat them again.
When I was buying the prey and they were individually bagged, a lot of times the prey was dry, but other times there'd be leaks. So I've fed both dry and wet FT prey items. Doesn't really matter. Right now, Morgana and Pepper needing assistance, and Freddie being on a fast, they're the only ones not eating. Everybody else nails the prey.
