For every buyer than reads a post about falling prices and thinks, "well, maybe I shouldn't get into this project" the demand decreases, further lowering the price.

Guys, more people are producing albinos...its supply and demand. Not Ian, not anyone else.

I never said he controls the market...But he (and his sellers) did drop the price on het albinos before others....which then, others followed....Much like MKR and the price of mojaves.....

Well, then its the sellers that blindly followed suit that are responsible for the drop.

MKR allegedly sold Mojave's for $500...can you get a mojave today for $500? Maybe you could re-consider your example quoted above...

Its a sad thing that the majority of the market competes on price alone, with no emphasis on service or value to make the higher prices worthwhile.

Remember, if the demand expands proportionately to the price increase, prices stabilize and don't drop. Its the lack of marketing by the sellers in the market as a whole to stimulate new demand that is responsible for the decreasing price, not an individual seller, even MKR...

Market threads are such a bummer.

I'm a little suprised by that, especially since you're a big breeder now.

Actually you can...males........Mojaves selling for $800 publicly go for $500 behind closed doors....Hell, at daytona somebody was selling 10 pins at 1k a head....

I dont like market threads and its ashame at what the prices are.....I for one will be somebody who supports the market and not someone trying to crash it....I am just giving facts.......

I payed $950 for my MALE pastel a yr and a half ago....Do you think i'm gonna be selling any female pastels less than that? Hell no...its not worth it....I put my time, energy, and money into this animal and theres no way I want to be selling female pastels for $600, $700.....Unfortunately I can't hang onto every snake I produce so I will have to sell them.....

I never, thought I would have a lesser in my collection like I do now....They were $25k last yr....My goal was to make enough money and buy one.....That goal wasn't hard to acheive after seeing them drop down to $2500.....Like I said, i'm stoked having him in my collection....but the prices on some of these snakes sicken me.....

Matt, you aspire to be a Ball Pythons breeder and you want the prices to come down? :confuzd:

To me, I would definately prefer the prices to stay higher, from a breeding standpoint; but it really doesn not matter that much to me. If these snakes suddenly became a dollar a dozen, I would still love mine and keep them and treat them like gold.

"950 for my MALE pastel a yr and a half ago....Do you think i'm gonna be selling any female pastels less than that? Hell no...its not worth it....I put my time, energy, and money into this animal and theres no way I want to be selling female pastels for $600, $700..."

But if you breed your 950 dollar pastel to three females, average six eggs a clutch, average 3 pastels each of those clutch, and for arguments sake, 2.1 ratio of pastels per clutch that would be a total of 3 female pastels for that one male. Even if you sell them at $600 you just made almost $800 profit on the females ALONE. How is that so bad? At the least you just paid off the overhead costs to support your hobby/ business.

(That's the reason why co-dom prices fall so fast, because with one male and a couple normal females its very easy to make back your investment and then some...)
