I am probably just making him more spoiled but I worry that he doesn't eat enough.

I have fed th dogs eukanuba, wellness (they hated that), flint river ranch (little guy wouldnt touch it), california natural (no go), and solid gold (nope).

I had some success with eagle pak but right now they are eatng purina dog chow...aka....trash. SIgh, and my little dog LOVES it.....why does he like this crappy filler????anyone know why?

And if I had time, money, and patience, I WOULD cook for my dog or setup a raw diet but seriously, who does that AND has a job AND has a life??????

Perhaps your dog does like the higher end food, but they just aren't eating as much of it. That's the point... less fillers, more real food.

Another thought, higher end food also produces less waste to clean up. Fillers tend to pretty much pass thru as extra waste. Less pooper scoopin'!!:D

I switched my cats to Nutro and they began to poo less, and they love it. They will actually wake me up in the morning by crawling over me and rubbing all over me, so I'll feed them. :D

I think I saw someone said that Nutro was on the list. I feed only dry Nutro to my cats. My grandmother has been feeding them another brand of wet food every other day. I'm not sure what brand it is, so I went upstairs and told her not to feed my cats wet food.

Nope, he doesn't even touch the higher end stuff. I watch him and monitor what he eats. He doesn't eat any of it. It is annoying spending that money and having the big dogs wolf it all down.

the reason pets will eat the crap food is the same reason your kids will eat crap-dinner instead of a healthier lunch... it tastes good. junk food always does.

He may like it, but it's not good for him.

What it comes down to is that a healthy dog who is hungry enough will not refuse food. However, you can train them to refuse food by teaching them that if they hold out long enough, they'll get something better. The way to correct that behavior is to withold treats, snacks, and coaxing. Put the food down for 15 minutes in the morning, if he doesn't eat it, take it away until the evening. Repeat until he caves. It may take a day or two, but he will get hungry enough eventually. Unless of course he has you well trained, and you cave. Hand-feeding can be used as a training technique, but should never be done with picky, fussy eaters. It just makes encourages the behavior.

I meal feed and I have no picky eaters.

No rat poison...it was a protein source from a different supplier. The problem was discovered when food containing that protein source was used in a monitored feeding trial and several cats in the trial developed kidney failure.

Rat poison causes coagulopathy, not kidney failure, and you'd need a huge volume to get that much contamination.

The problem was isolated to all food produced at a specific plant in KS. This plant produces the cutlets & gravy and pouched wet foods, and many different pet food companies hire this plant to utilize their specialized machinery to get that texture on their products. All dry products and most regular canned products are not produced at that plant, and so are not affected.

We've seen at least one suspected case at the ER where I work, and it is a tremendously widespread problem, due to the large number of companies involved and their national distribution.
