fyi: you don't have to be certified to ship geckos but you do have to be certified to ship snakes.

unfortunately it's a bit more complicated than that. here is a guide on how to get fedex certified: http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=28253. if the breeder that is shipping the snakes for you this time is certified you don't need to worry about it unless you plan to ship more snakes yourself in the future.

UPS will not certify any new accounts any longer. The only people allowed to ship thru them were grandfathered in before they changed the rules.

You are allowed to ship lizards (from crested geckos to tegu lizards) though UPS with no special certification. You can not ship snakes through UPS without breaking their TOS.

Fedex does have certification for shipping live reptiles. I am unsure if DHL requires certification or not.

I ship my tegu lizards via UPS Next Day Air, AM Delivery. I use foam lined boxes. I bag the larger tegu lizards in heavy duty bags. I put the smaller ones in appropriately sized deli dishes sealed with some tape. I use heatpacks/coldpacks (when required). I also use packing paper for 'cushion'. I do not seal the box until I get to the UPS Customer Center.

The women who work at the UPS Customer Center not only know what I am shipping, but I often bring one of my adults with me, as they enjoy seeing them. They keep my packages in the office until the very last moment to load them on the truck at the end of the day so they are in a climate controlled area until they go on the truck.

I feel that by being honest with these people, they will go out of their way to work with you. Keep in mind, that shipping company employees and their opinions about reptiles may vary from place to place.
