I used to use Southern States hog feed with 20% protein. Only problem I had with it was the waste. I used it for both rats and mice and I had good production from both. Now I pretty much use FRM Rodent Pellets. The hog feed is about $8.50 for 50 lbs and I can get the FRM for about $11.00 for a 50 lb bag.The major difference between the two is the fat content. Formulated rodent chow has a higher percentage.

If there is only a $3 difference then it is not much for you. But for the rest of us with a $8-$12 difference it is different.

Sorry, I was refering to the difference in content not price. Alot of research is involved in finding just what you want. It took me some time to find the FRM. I have to drive about an hour away to get it from a feed store. But that is still better than paying $25 or more for Muzuri.

I found alot of waste with the Frm/ Also the smell was very different and stronger. That food has a very high fat content. From chicken fat. I am not sure if that is the reason for the strong smell. I am just starting to use the hog food. And the nuggets or food is really large. I am stil using frm and maybe a mix of the two is the best idea.

What hog food/ brand are you using that the nuggets are large?

The one I got is small and falls through 1/4" mesh.

The one I am trying is Southern States. It is three times the size of the other food and hard like a rock.

Where do you get the FRM and who is it made by? I've been using sprout dog food from Mills Fleet Farm (10.99 50lb bag) and supplementing with oil sunflower seeds. (9.99 50 lb bag) And while the mice are doing great, the rats aren't producing very well. I did much better with the rats when I was using Harlen/teklad feed but thats 19.99 for a 33lb bag around here. I've been thinking about switching back to the harlan feed but at almost twice the price for a smaller bag, I'd really rather find something cheaper. Mazuri of course is ridiculously priced so I won't use that.

How much is Mazuri priced for where you are? Most people here are getting 50 lbs for around $20

I didn't call too many places, but it was $25.00 per bag. I didn't ask how big the bag was.
