Shovelling? Shovelling your driveway is for WIMPS! Get a friend in construction!

That's how REAL MEN shovel!! :P
But this photo is from Central Saskatchewan, not Alberta.... Alberta gets barely any snow!!

Re: Ultimate snow (dialup warning!)
Things are really lousy now.. our ATV can not plow through this stuff; it got stuck 2x and Mark had to pull it out with the truck while I whomped on it in reverse.. now Mark has this flu bug thing too and is just completely miserable.. he has to take the large tractor wheel off to take it in and refill it, as it is flat.. if we had just that tractor going, it would make things su much easier for him, it goes through anything.. and conveniently, none of our nearer neighbors are home and they all have huge tractors.. so much for rural hospitality.. :( Argh! It would be so much easier if Mark would agree to just hunker down for a day or two and let the weather pass a little, as it is still blowing snow everywhere.. but not HIM!

Re: Ultimate snow (dialup warning!)
My family lived in Champaign, IL the winter of '78...snow drifts bigger than houses, families snow locked into rural farm houses for days...and the melt...almost was scarier...
Been there, done blizzard...I'll take chances with earfquakes...=D

Wow.. it is almost like this snow wants to kill off all human life and exterminate us from the planet or something! Gotta love living in a place where it's deadly to merely be outside.. reminds me of those blizzard stories you hear where people freeze to death five feet from their front door from being lost in the snow..
Good news on the home front.. we were able to remove the tractor wheel and take it in to get reset on the rim and filled with air; the low pressure caused the flat, not a hole. So now we can at least plow decently around the driveway and farmyard, and up to the road and at least have some semblance of hope on getting in/out..

If you have food, neighbours with phones and all your horses safe and warm... I'd imagine you'll be fine :)
Nothing to offset a blizzard like a cup of hot cocoa and your favourite snugglebug under a blanket in front of the TV!

Ginevive...I know it sounds crazy, but I'm looking at that picture with such longing, you can't even know :)
It isn't that I'm a winter fan...it's just, if it's going to be 5 degrees and FREEZING outside, I'd like some white groundcover. Snow at least makes winter pretty and magical-looking. All we've got is brown grass and some ice from where we had 2" of snow last week :(

I do have to agree with you to a point! I hate those frigid days with no snow.. it is like the world needs a blanket or something. The worst thing is, that type of COLD night, with no cloud cover.. ouch! I only wish that here, it had held off at 2 feet, lol. Seriously though, the worst thing happening now is not the amount of snow, nor the temperature; it is these gale-force winds that make everything outside both dangerous and miserable.. the fields behind our house look like the ocean or something, with huge 30-plus-feet-high waves of blowing snow! Honestly, if the wind died down, I too would think of this as beautiful.. but if we could only get out of the driveway, and both get to and from work safely!
Here are some new shots from today! This is our landlord's upstairs porch.. he is vacationing in the Dominican Republic at the moment.. hope he doesn't think we're gonna shovel this stuff off!!

Re: Ultimate snow (dialup warning!)
Snow day number 2 WOOOHOOO! One of the many advantages to working for schools haha! I'll get to actually enjoy this one despite yesterdays snow day I spent most of it on the road. Now what to do with myself since I was up at my usual time and showered before I got the call.
