    "Mary was an acrobat

but still she couldn't seem to breathe.

Mary was becoming everything she didn't want to be.

Mary would hallucinate and see the sky up on the wall

Mary was the type of girl

    She always like to fly"

    - Buddah for Mary, 30 Seconds to Mars

"How can you just walk away from me,
when all I can do is watch you leave
Cos we've shared the laughter and the pain,
    and even shared the tears
You're the only one who really knew me at all

So take a look at me now,
'cos there's just an empty space
And there's nothing left here to remind me,
just the memory of your face
Take a look at me now,
'cos there's just an empty space
And you coming back to me
is against all odds and that's what I've got to face "

    - Against all odds, Phil Collins

"When you grab a hold of me Tell

me that I'll never be set free

    I'm a parasite,

creep and crawl I step into the night.

    Two pints of booze

Tell me are you a badfish too? Are you a badfish too?

Ain't got no money to spend

I know the night will never end

    Lord knows I'm weak

Won't somebody get me off of this reef

Baby your a big blue whale

Grab the reef when all duck diving fails

I swim but wish I never learned

The water's too polluted with germs

I dive deep when it's ten feet overhead

Grab the reef underneath my bed

Ain't got no quarrels with god Ain't got no time to grow old

    Lord knows I'm weak

Won't somebody get me off of this reef

Ain't got no quarrels with God Ain't got no time to grow old

    Lord knows I'm weak

Won't somebody get me off of this reef "

YES!! If that's the one I remember, it made me squal! Didn't she also do one about a puppy? Raggs or something? Or is that the same song?

How about Tom T. Halls "Old Dogs, Children and Watermelon Wine?

NGDB's, "Mr. Bojangles", "Dance Little Jean" or "Share Croppers Dream"

I'm not a fan of modern Country, but the old stuff works.

    Erm..

    A soppy one that makes me go all mooshy :oops: ;

    Possession by Sarah Maclachlan (sp?)

    Listen as the wind blows
    from across the great divide,
    Voices trapped in yearning,
    memories trapped in time,
    The night is my companion
    and solitude my guide,
    Would I spend forever here
    and not be satisfied,

And I would be the one
    to hold you down,
    kiss you so hard,
    I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears,
    Just close your eyes dear

    Through this world I've stumbled
    so many times betrayed,
Trying to find an honest word,
    to find the truth enslaved,
Oh you speak to me in riddles and
you speak to me in rhymes
My body aches to breathe your breath,
    your words keep me alive,

And I would be the one
    to hold you down,
    kiss you so hard,
    I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears,
    Just close your eyes dear

    Into this night I wander,
    it's morning that I dread,
    Another day of knowing of
the path I fear to tread,
Oh into the sea of waking dreams
    I follow without pride,
    Nothing stands between us here
    and I won't be denied,

And I would be the one
    to hold you down,
    kiss you so hard,
    I'll take your breath away
and after I'd wipe away the tears,
    Just close your eyes dear...

The unacompanied piano version for preference.

And Alanah Myles "Black Velvet" makes me look for the closest danceable female.:)

In Held 'Twas In I - by Procol Harum

    [Glimpses of Nirvana]
In the darkness of the night, only occasionally relieved by
glimpses of Nirvana as seen through other people's
windows, wallowing in a morass of self-despair made only
more painful by the knowledge that all I am is of my own
    making ...
When everything around me, even the kitchen ceiling, has
collapsed and crumbled without warning. And I am left,
standing alive and well, looking up and wondering why and
    wherefore.
At a time like this, which exists maybe only for me, but is
nonetheless real, if I can communicate, and in the telling
and the bearing of my soul anything is gained, even though
the words which I use are pretentious and make you cringe
with embarrassment, let me remind you of the pilgrim who
asked for an audience with the Dalai Lama.
He was told he must first spend five years in
contemplation. After the five years, he was ushered into
the Dalai Lama's presence, who said, 'Well, my son, what
do you wish to know?' So the pilgrim said, 'I wish to know
    the meaning of life, father.'
And the Dalai Lama smiled and said, 'Well my son, life is like
    a beanstalk, isn't it?'
Held close by that which some despise
which some call fake, and others lies
    And somewhat small
    for one so tall
a doubting Thomas who would be?
It's written plain for all to see
for one who I am with no more
it's hard at times, it's awful raw
They say that Jesus healed the sick and helped the poor
    and those unsure
    believed his eyes
    - a strange disguise
Still write it down, it might be read
    nothing's better left unsaid
    only sometimes, still no doubt
it's hard to see, it all works out

    ['Twas Tea-time at the Circus]
'Twas tea-time at the circus: King Jimi, he was there
Through hoops he skipped, high wires he tripped, and all the while the glare
of the aching, baking spotlight beat down upon his cloak
and though the crowd clapped furiously they could not see the joke
'Twas tea-time at the circus, though some might not agree
as jugglers danced, and horses pranced and clowns clowned endlessly
But trunk to tail the elephants quite silent, never spoke
and though the crowd clapped desperately they could not see the joke

[In the Autumn of My Madness]
In the autumn of my madness when my hair is turning grey
for the milk has finally curdled and I've nothing left to say
When all my thoughts are spoken (save my last departing birds)
bring all my friends unto me and I'll strangle them with words
In the autumn of my madness which in coming won't be long
for the nights are now much darker and the daylight's not so strong
and the things which I believed in are no longer quite enough
for the knowing is much harder and the going's getting rough

    [Look to Your Soul]
I know if I'd been wiser this would never have occurred
but I wallowed in my blindness so it's plain that I deserve
for the sin of self-indulgence when the truth was writ quite clear
I must spend my life amongst the dead who spend their lives in fear
of a death that they're not sure of, of a life they can't control
It's all so simple really if you just look to your soul
Some say that I'm a wise man, some think that I'm a fool
It doesn't matter either way: I'll be a wise man's fool
For the lesson lies in learning and by teaching I'll be taught
for there's nothing hidden anywhere, it's all there to be sought
And so if you know anything look closely at the time
at others who remain untrue and don't commit that crime

Classic country will always be the best Craig, though some of the new stuff isn't bad (especially Brad Paisley, Martina McBride and that sort). Black Velvet, now that's a sexy song if there ever was one Derek...great choice! Sarah's a huge fav around here Derek. Our youngest son was born to her music actually. He was delivered by a midwife and Sarah's CD "Mirrorball" was playing in the background....if I remember it right I believe it was "Building a Mystery" that was playing at the moment of Mikey's birth.

For flat out admiration of the person, her incredible voice and her music though I'll always go with Melissa Etheridge. Her duet with Joss Stone on the 2005 Grammy's doing a Janis Joplin tribute was bar none the best thing I've ever seen on TV. Joss Stone's ability to sing (at her young age) with the strength, power and passion that can match Melissa's was awe inspiring and made me an instant Joss Stone fan. As well, seeing Melissa perform bald and proud having just complete chemo for breast cancer, able to sing at her usual powerhose level, brought tears to my ears. The power of that image is so much more than the music itself.

    "Everlong"

    hello
    I've waited here for you
    everlong
    tonight I throw myself into
    and out of the red
out of her head she sang

    come down
    and waste away with me
    down with me
    slow how
    you wanted it to be
    I'm over my head
out of her head she sang

    and I wonder
when I sing along with you
if everything could ever feel this real forever
if anything could ever be this good again
the only thing I'll ever ask of you
you've got to promise not to stop whn I say when

breathe out so I can breathe you in
    hold you in
and now I know you've always been
    out of your head
out of my head I sang
