Re: Carpet questions
Hi
yes i think you can..but i now that some people dont think this..But thats what you like
When i have a home for myself i will go to build a Rack system for Carpets..and for Ball pythons of course :P :)

Re: Carpet questions
You can keep them in a rack...but I think once you have some (can't stop at one) I don't think you will want to. Just so much better to be able to see them moving around. Since all balls do is sit around anyway they aren't too entertaining, but carpets move much more, and I think they utilize any additional space you give them more than balls will. But ya, if you are just worried about keeping them alive and breeding them, you can do that in a rack.
Below are some pics of a semi-arboreal rack that I built. The tubs are ~2ft long, ~18 in wide, and ~18 in tall. So, they are good for juvie carpets up to small adult males. Kind of a happy medium for me so that I could pack more in, but still have a somewhat open look. And, as you can tell, I built the rack for functionality...so it isn't pretty, but it does its job and has for years now.

Re: Carpet questions
Ya...I guess I shoulda figured you'd just need an aboreal rack. Personally, I really like the look (I don't own any yet, so I can't speak for functionality) of animal plastics. I'll most likely end up picking up one of their carpet display cages...very nice!

Re: Carpet questions
i'm trying to decide between boaphile and animal plastics myself for when they all get 'grown'... mine are all in a set up pretty much like bhmorril's right now... except i have dowel rods and drift wood instead of pvc, and a cut up wrapping paper tube for the two little girls ;)
personally i think carpets would benefit from the exercise of the climbing space in a cage 18"-24" tall... they sure do use it when they have it!

Re: Carpet questions

Re: Carpet questions
Ok i'm not quite sure what you were asking, but as long as you have to flexwatt on a thermostat, it won't get hot enough to melt plastic. 90 - 95 degrees is perfectly fine on plastic...

Re: Carpet questions
Well, this doesn't showcase the entire boaphile cage, but you can get an idea. This is my Irian Jaya Carpet python female. She loves the perch more than my male. Also, boaphile offers radiant heating panels. The cages I keep my carpet pythons in have radiant heat panels in the ends. However, due to the temperatures in my snake room and perhaps the general lack of insulation, I had to add a foot of flexwatt to the cool side to bring up the temperatures.

If you want an outside picture of the whole cage with everything in it, send me a pm, I'm not on the forums a lot with everything else I have going on right now.

Re: Carpet questions
Adult Carpets are great display snakes and are much more enjoyable when they are not in a rack...
I keep my Carpets in Visions...Jon
