But then I paid $5k+ for a pied ball python. We all have our special things we love to spend money on. How much was that mercedes? No way.. how much for that Lesser bee? Ooooo Really? LOL.
I work hard for my money, and I'll spend it on what I want. Just because my friends think I'm insane to spend more than $100 on an animal.. I don't care. They spend $100s on going out drinking. What do they have to show for it? A hangover.
I'd rather have ball pythons.

You completely hit the nail on the head for my situation, too. People look at Mark and I, as we own horses, and say "ooh, you must be rich!" I laugh hysterically at this.. nope; we just don't go out to the clubs and bars; we don't go nuts over clothing; and hugely.. we have no kids. We also "do all our own stunts" meaning, we shovel manure daily, cart it out, mix our own grain; we even built their stalls out of scrap wood that our landlord just wanted to burn.. salvaged the fenceposts from a failed snowfence; bought used halters and grooming stuff msotly.. heck, the horses themselves were tossouts from other people (Emma would have gone for meat.) All housed in an old polebarn that was filled to the rafters with JUNK from people who lived here; we bodily hauled it out, burning a whole wall and replacing it with fresh tin.. work, work, work my friend. :)
Now that I have completely went off topic, I have to say that nothing will get you that morph faster than hard work. Take our Spider; I was able to buy him using the funds from my first big bonus check at work. Sure, we have revolving credit cards (none in default, lol, I am a bill collector) And some went towards that, but I felt that since Mark and I have been working our hineys off, that snake would be ours. He also had a chunk of money from one of his companies new jobs..
Here's a little rags-to-riches tale really quick, about my fiancee Mark; he was working grunt labor for a cement company, then got laid off last year.. so, he relied on unemployment for a few months, and started his own business renovating homes, managing properties for absentee landlords (maintaining those too..) I can say honestly, he started out with nothing in the bank and an old truck; he is making three times or more what he did at that job already.
I should add, we never save up for things. We have used a few credit cards in the past, and are busy bees paying them down, building our credit up.. I had negative credit when I started out years ago; now I have to turn it away. I am not bragging here; I grew up on the verge of poverty; no sweet sixteens or cars at age 16 for me.
