Re: Morph help
You got the pastel, I would say spider. Most of the best morphs include spider and or pastel. The question is male or female? I was always told to have a back up male because unless he is a proven breeder there is no guarantee he will close the deal! Even then sometimes BP's are picky about who they mate. Then save up for a female pied and mate her to the pastel to make pastel het pieds then pied pastels. Does it ever end??????????

Re: Morph help
I'm of the thought that if what you really want is a Piebald, start working on that project asap. The first line of buisness is a female so she can start growing. If your willing to spend 1k, go for a 100% Piebald Het female, I'm sure you could get what your looking for with that 1k.
The other, and much harder to do, is not buy anything, and just put that 1k in the bank. Then just keep saving while the prices of Piebalds come down, then when the price is right, you can buy =)

Re: Morph help
I guess I am just a nut.. my goals are actually to have a pied while keeping back a bumble bee, the original Pastel, and Spider, that I start off with also. :) I am not trying to say that the Spider and everything else are jut a means to a Pied.. I am sorry if it came off that way. I want to use them to build up towards one, yes, but they are stepping stones that I would definately like to keep in the garden (if that makes sense, hehe.)
I am getting more and more nuts about bees, the more I look at them.. the main thing here is, I want to have fun and enjoy the anticipation of hatching babies out, etc.. and it is not something I am losing interest in or that's getting old and chorelike.. so I am going with it!
Heck, it is a LOT better of an investment, than breeding horses.. those are just pets for me. My friend breeds Quarter Horses, and she is lucky if she even breaks even, what with housing/ feeding/vet care.. not something I will be doing again unfortunately unless we hit the lottery or something.

Re: Morph help
Go with what you feel is right Genevive. It seems like you want more than just a pied. I would go with the spider now.
After you get a bumble bee, make sure to pick up an axanthic to make some new babies

Re: Morph help
jen,
you've said you aren't interested in hets... so it sounds like a spider is probably your best bet. i know you know this but.... make sure you get your spider from a high quality breeder... who is using GREAT stock themselves... so you start with the best snake you can afford... and go from there.
best of luck with the snake hatching karma gods!

I feel the odds of making money in breeding ball pythons over horses are in her favor :)
I am not positive, but what is the going value for a quarter horse? These are 2 completely different animals. You are comparing something that takes a $7 enclosure plus other misc. supplies and eats no more than $4 or $5 a week, depending on what it eats to a huge animal that will eat I don't even know how much a week, but I know more than $5 worth of feed and needs quite a space to its' own. I would much rather breed a snake that can sell for $1000 and if the needed vet trips are to a minimum, there is much more money to be paid in snakes.
