I think i might have some Input here. but I could be talking out my but lol but this is what I was told.

is this what your talking about.

I was told that this is really nothing to worry about and time can fix it. It some times happens when an eye cap is a bit stuck. while sheding and when removed by the snake the eye cap can pull the soft "skin" from the cornors (sp?) of the eyes. that white is just that soft skin being exposed.

That was what i was told by the vet in AZ. (god I miss that vet!) feel free to correct me any one if I'm wrong.

    hope that helps

OMG if you are right...you will have made my day Jessie. (imagine if you hadnt stuck around) :)

It sounds like that is what it COULD be. Maybe it has NOTHING to do with mites! He did shed, but it was complete, so I ruled out eye caps, and blamed mites.

I wonder if it really could be a shed that pulled the soft skin out? I wonder if this 'phenomenon' is commonplace? Does this sound more like the culprit?

Thanks a MILLION jessie! I am still going to contact my vet, I think :) and obviously get some PAM (Provent-A-Mite).

So this will go away with time? No treatment/remedy? hmmm sounds too good to be true!

Im eternally grateful for your input! :D

My vet said that over time it could right it's self or it couldnt. it wasn't caulsing pain or eye site problems and now over a year later he is still doing fine. it comes and goes with every shed. and it is most visable right after a shed and then goes away or shrinks after a week or so.

but I would say call your vet have it looked at to rule out mites, you never know. Baby has never gotten mites *knocks on wood* and hopefuly never will.

good luck and let us know what your vet has to say.
    Hugs,
    Jess

Baby is his nic name. the true name for my snakes are (as in order of real name then nic name)

    Assission "Baby"
    Dystroyer "Lazy"
    Atlas "Free be"
    Havoc "Angel"
    Arsonal "Kupa"
    Brama "Butters"
    Titton "Bender"
    DuleX "Koolaid"
    SoloX "MoJo"
    FunkyPup "Dude"

Each real name is named after a Subwoofer most of the Subwoofer names are from Assendent Audio, one of our car audio sponcers.

cool. Baby is my nicaraguan or central american boa's real name. It was already her name when I got her, and I didnt change it. I guess I should name my next snake SoloBaric after my favorite subwoofer. ;)

Thanks again for your response. It has put my mind at ease...atleast for the moment. :) We'll wait and see if the vet agrees.

I don't have a vet opinion, but when that sort of thing happened w/Precious, it soon went away. I figured it was just a normal part of his eye and the shedding process.

I too would be interested in your vet's determination of what it is/was.

About the P.A.M......I talked to four of our pet stores/feed stores/ animal supplies stores (take your pick for name). All told me the reason PAM isn't sold in pet stores is b/c it's not a high volume item, (it's considered a specialty product) and the usu. vendors won't carry it in their product stock. Also, if you search, not all reptile suppliers / stores online will carry it either. You just need to look around and find the ones that do.

    Good luck w/Spider!

Thanks! I probably would have dismissed this as a shedding problem if he didnt have mites...seeing as he just shed. But add the mites to the picture, and I got worried. So far 0 people have replied saying they have had mites eat the eye until it puffs out like that, and 2 people have replied saying they have had a shed do this to the eye. We are starting to get somewhere.

You are right, I have found some online reptile suppliers that have it and some that dont.

Thanks very much for your support! :)

    Re: mite eye?
YW! Mites do like and will attack and burrow around the eye, but for Precious it wasn't mites. Pls see your vet. Spider's problem MAY be mites, but better to know for sure. ;)
