Re: New Enclosure!
Before I got my snakes, my brother bought one and we learned how to take care of it. We took it to the vet for a checkup and he said it looks good! When I told him I was planning on getting my own snake, he told me to wait 6 months before even considering another snake, to make sure the one we currently had did ok..... I couldn't wait that long so I finally got mine 2 months later:D . The point is, as long as you know what you are doing, then you will be fine.
Please post some pics when your tank is complete with the hides and such!

Re: New Enclosure!
This one is going great. I checked the temps today...humidity was at 54%, warm temp at 91 and cool temp was at 88.
I am getting the other tank set up because i am still planning on getting the other one. I have everything set up already, just have to make sure that the temperatures and humidity are right.
Thank you all for your help on making his enclosure how it should be!

Re: New Enclosure!
Seems like it's doing alright, you just want to make sure the temperatures are stable and don't fluctuate. That cool side is a bit high and the warm side is still a bit cool. You want about a 10 degree difference between the sides. 92-94 warm side and 82-84 cool side. You can get it!

Re: New Enclosure!
Thanks. Ill make sure that it gets fixed...
Scince i was told to keep the snake at room temperature, whenever i took him out he was slightly cold to the touch, and i took him out and he was warm!...i mean not hot, but actually not cool. Made me happy :D

Re: New Enclosure!
Good luck with him...... you'll get everything down pat and be able to do it in your sleep in no time...we all had to start some where right?
Also since the plastic wrap is sooooo ugly and hard to manage you can buy duct tape...I used gorilla brand black duct tape...its nice and solid black....we put foil over the screen..reflective side down and then taped over it...leaving just enough for our ceramic heat element...which we still use on once tank and have no problem with his humidity...again trial and error....good luck again. :sunny:

Re: New Enclosure!
good idea! thank you! i like the idea of the black tape too...right now, to regulate the humidity, i have the top, then wet wash clothes, then saran wrap. its working pretty well.

Re: New Enclosure!
Just so you're aware, wet wash cloth + warm environment = tons of bacteria and possibly mildew if the wash cloths are not changed out every day. Then, air is being filtered down through said wash cloth, bringing said bacteria with it into your snake's lungs. An infection could set itself up in there and you could end up with a very sick Ball Python.
A piece of plexiglas cut to fit inside the mesh lid rims, works very well and is a good insulator. The foil and duct tape I'm sure works fine too.

Re: New Enclosure!
yup yup. i know. i deal with horses, and things get mildewey really quickly out in the heat (boots, towels, ropes etc). I know all about that. haha. I just put them on tonight, and im taking them off before i go to bed, ill put new ones on, and change 'em again tomarrow. not a big deal to change them out, im going to do the tinfoil thing tomarrow, so i dont have to keep washing towels. lol. i just dont have the time/energy to do it tonight.

Re: New Enclosure!
okay, well it ends up i did have enough energy, i just finished lining the top with tinfoil, not the most attractive thing in the world, but, it is for the good of the snake, so who cares-lol
