if everything else is perfect, as many people have said, a soaking bowl is not necessary.

But they wont necessarily HURT an enclosure. i have soaking bowls for my bps but they dont use them.

I have only had one ball python ever soak.....but technically I would not call it soaking. I changed hides in my oldest male ball python's enclosure....later that evening I found him 'soaking' in his water bowl....my humidity was great, etc....I figured he did not feel secure in his new hides....so i put the old ones in and never noticed him in the bowl for the rest of the week. To test my theory, I replaced his hides again....and sure enough....he was in his water bowl and hour later....

    Just thought I would share.

I don't see anything wrong with offering a larger water dish, even if it doesn't soak. I do have several that will soak every so often, not often, but when they feel like it! :)

Is that water dish large enough for the BP to soak in? It looks a bit small to me.
I think the point here is that _BoidFinatic_ seemed to suggest that the OP's water bowl "should" be large enough to soak in. We're saying - offer one large enough for soaking if you want to, but it's really not needed if everything else is correct (temps, humidity, no external "critters"). ;)

Is it me, or did he not mention anything about a indoor/outdoor thermometer/hygrometer?

You can get one from Lowes for 13 bucks.
