Re: My new looker!!
Haaa, now the addiction thing is funny ... but true. We have had our normal femal efor about 5 years now, the othe two normals for 2 years, and so on, and so on...
She was born 6/23/05. She pooped two days ago, and this morning she is 515 grams. Her feeding card shows she has never missed a meal, and she was being fed once a week (rat pups, then fuzzy rats). We are going to try our first feed for the three new ones on Saturday, so we have been trying to leave them alone, but it is soooo hard. :D
PS, that is an awsome looking pied too, I hope your project goes well!!! :)

I've heard those rumors as well and think it's cr@p ... in my collection I have some slow growers in my pied group but I also have some slow growers in my hypo group, albino group, lesser group, pin group, etc .... An animal that is conditioned to be a good eater out of the egg will always be a good eater (relatively speaking) and flakey animals will always be flakey ... It's important to get your stock from breeders that know how to start their animals well and hope for the best, but when working with living creatures, it's always a gamble.
Hope this helps.

Re: My new looker!!
Adam,
I have heard some say it is crap as well. However, next time you are on the phone with Sean (EbN), ask him how his pied project is going. I also have projects that have fast and slow growers. As I stated, my Male Het. Pied was 1300 grams at 12 months old, and he was only fed one rat every two weeks after he hit 500 grams. My Female pied has only grown 200 grams since I got her in July of '05. She hasn't been a good eater, but seems to be packing on the weight since she has started eating again. I do appreciate your input though.
Thanks Again,

Tim,
Sean and I have spoken about his pied project and his disappointment in their growth, and it's really a kick in the balls (pardon the pun). Sean is a great guy and deserves a lot better! That said, I also talk to a lot of people that have had and are having exceptional results with the growth of their pieds.
In this business, you tend to hear more of the complaints than the praises and I personally don't feel that you can cast a negative light on an entire morph with only a handful of unfortunate stories about slow growth.
I can certainly understand where you're coming from ... if I had animals that grew that slow I'd be suspect as well. It really bites when projects take longer than your hoping for. Hopefully they'll turn around for you.
I sincerely wish you the best of luck with them!

Great response Adam, I've heard the "slow-growth" thing with pieds before, but always personally thought it was spawned by a few finicky feeders. One other thing with pieds I've heard is they have proportionately small heads. Has anyone else heard this? Is there any truth to this? I didn't notice it in any of the pieds I've seen (although most I've seen were hatchling/juveniles).

Re: My new looker!!
I will be interested in seeing how all 3 of the new snakes grow.
Any suggestions on how to handle their first feeding? I am not sure if I can get live fuzzy rats around here, and I have been trying to decide if i should try f/t of the same, or try live mice, or even fresh killed mice. We never had any real problems with our normals after bringing them home, I think AJ took an extra week to eat the first time. I am really nervous about a live mouse ... but that comes from Tuleo being bit through the neck one time by rat. That was no fun giving shots for for 10 days.

Re: My new looker!!
Adam,
Thanks again for input, as it is always good to hear stories from as many people as you can on certain topics. I agree with you on the comment of always hearing the negative. My Het pied male was produced by Sean, and he seemed to grow great. My Het female came from Barcyzk, and she is a bit of a slow grower.
p.s. If you don't mind me asking, how did your Pin do for you this year? I have not been able to get mine to breed, regardless of the size of his penes and the fact that he has great sperm.
Thanks again, and good luck to you on your projects this year,
