I work in technical support for a software company after having been in development dept for the same company for 10 years. Main thing that annoys me about tech support is um...the customers!

No, seriously this week, this poopyhead (imagine a MUCH stronger word there) has decided it's quite alright to bash the company and the software, specifically the functionality I spent those 10 years developing and I'm supposed to help him. Lemme find that magic switch for you, sir, to just make it all magically work for you.

Makes me very much want to tell the support manager to return his annual support contract and tell him to go use someone else's software if ours sucks so much.

Most people are pretty nice, albeit frustrated, but usually everyone's happy once you fix the problem. The small percentage of jerks certainly do, however, make up for it tho. =P

At my "real" job there isnt a single person that calls in that is happy to talk to me. They also dont like to receive calls from me. But i guess thats to be expected in a government job.

My pet peeve is when I have to bust my butt to do someone elses work along with my own because they just didnt feel like working that day (they didnt call in sick ... they came in and literally did nothing), and then they take the credit for getting their work done.

Well....I have a ton of things that really irk me at my job as a evening manager at our local pet store but there is one thing that gets to me the most.

Customer: Hi, I just set up a tank yesterday and I want to get a few fish to put in it.
Me: Alright well depending on the size of the tank I'd recommend only getting a few fish (3ish) to start you out, and you can add more in a few days.
Customer: Alright...well I want this and this and this. And this, this, this, and this.
Me:Mam, that is a few too many fish to add all at once to a new tank. I follow with explaining why.
Customer: Well at Petco they told me....
Me: Well I recommend you wait to add that many fish
Customer: Oh they'll be just fine in there, I've done it before.
Me: Do you still have that tank setup?
Customer: Well I had an ick outbreak that killed everything in the tank...you guys sold me a sick fish.
Me: I'm sorry to hear about that, but I think there was something else going on with that tank....further explain what more than likely happened with her tank. Overcrowding, overfeeding, high nitrates, the works...
Customer: No I did everything right...
Me: Okay. Well with this many fish today for the new tank, I can't put our guarantee on them.
    Customer: Well why not?!
Me: *Puzzled look from already explaining why* It would definitely be too many fish to add all at once.
Customer: Well I'll go buy my fish at PetCo.
Me: I'm sorry you feel that way. Good luck with your new tank. /shakes head

Grrrr! Customers are always right? Riiiiight. LOL

I love my job, but unfortunately I have to deal with people like that on a constant basis with all sorts of critters...their animal husbandry skills are horrible but since it may have worked out before supposedly it will again.

8:30 and ungodly hour??? I have to be to work at 6:30 and work till 7:00pm (yep that's 12 hours) and id i tell you it's warehouse work, not a desk job, so i'm on the move most of the day? Oh, and Shelby, I feel your pain.......the petstore i worked in had a grooming salon, and of all the jobs in our store, I had the most pity for them.....after all your hard work, and yes, getting pooped on, peed on and squirted with anal juice, only to have the owner complain that "fluffy was cut a little short" or " why is there an extra de-matting charge?" and then on top of that, get something like a $1 or $2 tip. Definately NOT for me....I was just fine in the fish/reptiles dept....I don't know how you groomers do it. Oh and JBall, I worked at Petco for six years, and i would have told them the EXACT same thing if they came to my Petco..listen to my sound advice or..NO GUARANTEE....

I don't think I can complain too much. I teach health and phys.ed. Mainly health now, but gee getting up to play games all day with the kids wasn't all that bad, right. Now as far as the parents go...:irkd:

Cassandra those are the bugs I have to deal with!! Not the ones that are left behind in the code, the bugs who wrote the code in the first place (nothing against what you do of course;)). I package / publish and manage policy for ALL types of software (internal and external). Annoying is when they (the bugs) send you their product for distribution and when it doesn't work want me to figure out what's wrong with THEIR product. I just reply with "Ask your dev group".

I work in a print shop as a press helper. All day long (2p.m-12a.m) I run around like a mad man cleaning all the presses and lifting some heavy stuff. And get treated like crap by most of the press opertators when they finish a job and need to clean up and get the next job ready they call me over and go to lunch or go bs somewere else:( .the real kicker january is review time but this year they told everyone that they didnt make enough money (32 million) so there would be no raises this year:mad:

My local PetCo gives horrible advice...and as testament to that most of the employees that work there come to where I work for most all animals, fish, and advice. LOL

However, I have been to some with very well informed, knowledgable staff.

I'm a full-time student, and work part-time at CVS, as well as part-time at the Honors and Scholars Center on campus. CVS is just your basic bull... cashier and stocking.

But working at H&S definately presents some interesting scenarios. For instance: Last Friday the other student scheduled to close with me was out sick. So, I took the opportunity to catch up on some reading, just answering the phones until time to close. Unforutunately, there were a TON of phone calls. This is what had happened: the Orientation Department had sent out all their materials before we had sent out the decisions for which students would be admitted into Honors and/or Scholars. So, we get all these parents freaking out that they haven't received their decisions and they supposedly have to turn in their Orientation materials as soon as possible to get the spots they want. And some simply WILL NOT get the point that no one has received their decisions and, therefore, no one can sign up... and, therefore, no one can steal the good spots.

I lost count of how many yelled at me, telling me that I (like I had made the mistake) had done a disservice to their son or daughter, that I needed to fix it, that I needed to tell them their decisions---which I'm SO not allowed to do---and many other less nice things. By five, I was ready to cry I was so frustrated.

Let me tell you all: some of the craziest people on the planet are parents trying to get their kids into a good school. So, just some advice for those parents out there that will be facing this at some point... just chill a little ;) Keep up on deadlines, try to get your kid to do some of the phone calls (to give them a little taste of the system they'll have to negotiate when they DO get to school), and don't yell at the people on the other line. Chances are good that they're just the messenger, and hate letting you down.

    Lol... off my soapbox now!
