Re: You'll never guess...
We lived for a time in the Canadian Yukon. There's areas in BC and up that way where both black and grizzly bears live. Black bears in their cinnamon phase look a lot like an immature grizz. Here's the "advice" the locals gave us to properly ID a bear.
1) Run up and kick unidentified bear square in the nose!
2) Run like heck and climb the nearest tree.
3) If it's a black bear it will climb up the tree....and eat you!
4) If it's a grizzly bear it will knock down the tree....and eat you!
:D
They also used to tell us greenhorns to tie bear bells onto our backpacks when we went into the bush. We did till we heard the oldtimers commenting on how nice it was that "the cheechako's were wearing their dinner bells"....ACK!

Re: You'll never guess...
Man I LOVE Tucson. My granparents live there. And I have been there twice. I went in Feb and in April. When I went in Feb I saw a mountain lion hiking at the nearly the top of ventana canyon, north of town. The one next to the sweet resonrt. That place is so cool
Re: You'll never guess...
Two summers ago, when I was at my crazy Uncle's ranch, he said he was going to move some of his agrassive steer (neutered male bulls)to a different patch of grassland so I decided that then was a good time to take a shower. Unfortunatley, it was one of his houses that he built so it had ne air conditioning, central air, etc... So before I got In I went and opened the back door :thumbsdow (big mistake especially since he took his four dogs with him)! So I was in the shower then when I was done, I went out Into the livingroom and shut the back door! I turned around and to my extreem shock! There was a mountain lion or cougar:eyepoppin not but 10 feet away from me!
my first reaction was to get one of my uncle's guns or a hunting knife but there were none in reachung range. So I decided to very, very slowly open the back door, after, I just stood extreemly still and controled my breathing.
Someone must of been on my side that day because the ML or Cougar relaxed and proceded to leave:D !!
In the end, I was fine. Just really really spooked and I will never leave any door open again!
Dont ever make that mistake when you have small children!
