Popping is safe - it's the easiest way to sex a baby snake. You can not sex a snake by comparing size to a similar aged snake!

It's best to have someone who knows (breeder/vet) how to pop to show you. Take a look at this page:

Ah yes.. I came downstairs yesterday after cleaning cages and my mum asks what that white streak is on my new jeans. It was blood python urate. :D She says 'you smell like a snake again!'

I popped a baby kenyan sand boa and squirted urate on someone else. They weren't pleased.

Ah so I shouldn't wear the good clothes on my next visit? Although I think I remember seeing you do it... A little squirt and voila you were done. (Wow that just didn't come out right! :stupidme: )

Well, tried to pop Kashmire today (with Jo on IM with me! LOL). I can't tell!!! LOL

I didn't see two bumps at all, and I felt like I was giving a lot of pressure. I saw a small pink mound, but not much else - I'm sure I'm probably not doing it right, even with a pictorial step by step that I used.

Problem is, the pictorial showed a male snake's "stuff" but I have no clue as to what a female's "stuff" looked like.

Oh, and Kashmire was very calm throughout the whole process - didn't get tagged, but did get a little urine! LOL

You sometimes have to squish them pretty hard for them to show their stuff.

The girls' stuff is kind of a small pinkish mound (and wonderful musk will squirt out of it.. yummy!)

Well, I got a small pinkish mound - however, I'm not convinced that I did it right, althought I thought I was squishing his tail (with the rolling motion) pretty well, while pulling open the vent with the other hand.

I certainly didn't see anything that resembled sperm plugs either - but I don't know what age males would produce them - so much to still learn!!

No, I'm not sure he's not a she, which is why I thought I'd try. I'm still not convinced I did it right (or even know what I'm looking at!) I did it about four times, all the same "results".

And no, I've not had anyone else sex him. I'd love if he was a female, so it would be nice if he turned out to be she.
