I believe there are several sites that have been listed that are a great source of information. If you have a question about a particular site feel free to pm an admin/mod.

In regards to the reputation points. Guys, this world is far from being fair but the system that is in place is as fair as we can make it. Trying to allow post count to influence the reputaion just makes for people who post about a million times to say nothing. Plus, it's impossible for the admins/mods to personally give out reputation to every individual. This really is a good compromise, and will eventually even it's way out. Not everyone is going to like everything you have to say, that's just the way the world works. There is no reason to be posting about every loss of point. If you have a concern please ask one of the staff. :D

I asked SHELBY last night and between the two of us we came to a conclusion.I guess since my recomendation that 95 was to high it offended someone:confused: .Its a shame since i was told to keep the temps at 90 not 92 to 95 like others were told. Thanks again Shelby:)

Well just my take on it but I think we all need to be responsible about this neg and postive feedback thing. To give either just because you don't agree or do agree with a viewpoint someone just isn't for me personally.

I think it's more about a negative feedback if you believe what the person said is obviously mis-information or potentially harmful for a newcomer to follow. Same with positive, if it's something outstanding or special the person has done to further the aim of this forum or this hobby in general. Not just...oh I agree...here's a point thingy.

Just my own view of this points system concept.

I think tigerlily has explained the situation about as well as it can be explained. The Admin Council felt that the reputation system was a better alternative to post count because it should, in theory, improve the quality of information we have in our forums. When post counts are used, it may increase the quantity of information, but it's not always good information.

If someone gives you negative points because you've said something he or she disagrees with, you may not like it, but it's not really abuse of the system. Someone else may agree with the same statement and give you positive points for it. Some members may receive negative points for being argumentative or insensitive, and that's not abuse of the system either. Abuse of the system is giving someone negative or positive points because you don't like them or want to "help [them] out." That type of abuse of the system may result in a drop in your reputation or revokation of your ability to affect the reputation of others.

Our goal here is to create and maintain a civil environment in which people can exchange information and ideas. A reputation system lets new users know whose opinions are more reliable and trusted. If you are a new user, stick around, be nice, learn from those who have been at this a bit longer than you have, and your reputation will improve.

We don't want to do away with any and all types of ranking systems. We feel we need some way to let new users know what information is reliable and trustworthy because in the end, it's not about you - it's about the herps.

I really enjoy using and being subject to the new reputation system over the old "post count" ranking ... I've taken some lumps because of my big mouth and have gotten good feedback when I actually think before I speak. :P

My only problem with the system is that for new users, it's very hard to see what the individuals rankings are if you aren't already familiar with the software’s structure.

Unless you are a particularly heinous poster and get the ugly red cube, everyone at first glance looks the same and there's no way to differentiate someone that just joined and has the default reputation level between someone like Jo or Daniel that has a great ranking for consistently giving out good advice and being helpful.

Of course new users can always find a little more information by moving their mouse over the "green cube", but even then, the ranking system isn't defined and without context seems to all blur together.

I've noticed that other boards that use the same or similar software have users with higher reputation points represented by multiple "green cubes" and have always wondered if the "scale" on this site for reputation points was too broad or if it was different software all together or something else because visually I think it's a lot easier to grasp that someone with 4 green cubes has a better rep than someone with 1 green cube ... or at least easier to differentiate who the community holds in higher regard than "is welcome around here" vs. "has a face we're always glad to see" both of which seem to be pretty much the same.

I hope that ramble makes sense?

Again, I'm certainly not criticizing ... I LOVE the new system and the longer you guys let me hang around the better this site seems to get. I also very much appreciate the fact that every day the admin council and moderators work in their "spare time" to make this site the best site on the internet for herp related information. I just thought I'd throw this out there basically because I'm a "if I think it I say it" kind of guy. ;)
