My condolences. I know how you feel. My bp passed two months ago from a swelling near his cloaca (link). Sounds like you did all you could. Take your time and mourn. Two months removed and I'm mostly over it. I renovated my bp's enclosure and I'm looking forward to getting a new snake (a Children's python). I'm really excited about it actually, but hearing your story takes me back to when it happened. The pain is fresh again. I hope you feel better soon, but it'll be much longer before you're completely over it, if you ever are.

Thank You🥺. I have such a headache from crying today. I know you feel my pain. I have 4 other BPs and 8 corn snakes. I couldn't even look at them today without crying. She should be crawling around too. It hurts, but yes, I need to let it all out. I know it will get better, but I will always think what I could've done or what she would've looked like as an adult (she was very different looking) I was going to breed her to see what genes she carried. The whole thing just sucks no matter how I look at it. I appreciate your responding, I am sorry this happened to you too.

When you feel up to it (or do it in writing- it's easier that way when the pain is still fresh) I think you should talk to your vet about what happened- & see if he has any ideas. I doubt you want to spend the money to do a necropsy, & it might not give you answers anyway- though since you have a number of other snakes, it might help (if possible) to be sure it was nothing contagious. But just see what he thinks might have happened? It also helps our vets to provide the best care when they get feedback & know the outcomes. So very sorry this happened. It's hardest when it's just so unexpected.

The forum helped me a lot. It helped to hear support from others that understood what I was going through.

It's shocking but so many people will sympathize if your dog or cat passes away, but a reptile or a fish? They're like "so what?" You really have to live with these animals to understand how much personality they have. That's part of what makes us a "family".

Yea, sometimes I hate hearing stories about how people hate snakes. You don't have to like them. But they are a necessity to the eco system and alot of people really do view them as family. I am glad I at least have some people who do understand. Also, I have some friends who aren't reptile people but they are sympathetic and don't feel the need to speak about how they don't like them.

My vet just called. He is equally shocked and wanted to send his condolences. He said other than the fact that she perhaps ruptured something internally, (he asked if there was any sign of blood or discoloration. I didn't see any at all and I checked). He said perhaps being that it was a hard urate plug, maybe the stress of it all was just too much for her little heart. He also asked if she was straining as well. I didn't see it at all. She looked completely normal. Like I said before, no sign of infection, no parasites, nothing. This blows guys.

The vet even wrote me back and said he isn't concerned about her not eating at this point yet. Everything looked good on X-ray and she was expected to make a full recovering.
Fast forward to an hour ago. I went to check on her and found her passed away. I am devastated. I can't stop blaming myself and I feel horrible. These snakes live for years and I couldn't even give her 6 months. I feel so absolutely horrible. I wasn't expecting this outcome. Especially from all the positive things that were said about her health. I'm sorry I couldn't help her🥺

Honestly, JJpeep, I was so stunned when I read this post of yours earlier today that I felt it in the pit of MY stomach- really sad disbelief- I didn't expect this outcome at all either. You & your vet both tried to help her- & you both did the best you could- sometimes, for reasons we cannot understand, it's just not enough. :tears:

May your sweet little snake rest in peace, & I hope that in time, you find comfort too. All your other snakes still need you.

Thank you for understanding. It has been a day of grief for sure. I didn't even expect my vet to call so early and be so upset as well. I am surprised I got through the conversation. I know what you mean about the pit of your stomach thing. I have had it all day. I still keep going over and over, was she cold, was she hot, was I not offering food enough? But everyone including the vet said what was done should have been done. So I guess I have just have to feel the emotions I am feeling to get through it. Yes the other snakes do need to be taken care of. You are right. One of our cornsnakes escaped after Thanksgiving. We were beside ourselves. Trying to find him. He actually showed up on our blinds in the window 2 weeks later. We just got that relief and we're so happy. This is a more permanent feeling, I'll never get her back. I was so excited about starting breed (not wanting to be a big breeder). Just something we wanted to do for a long time. This has me rethinking it. I don't know if I have the strength to get through stuff like this. I get too attached. I mean what if she would have made it into adulthood and I bred her and she got eggbound and something happened. I probably would feel worse. Cuz I put her in that position. I have a beautiful Plastel Butter Yellowbelly who eats great and is getting so big. She is over a year old I was going to breed to my male banana cinnamon butter that just turned a year old the day I took this little girl to the vet. In a couple of years of course cuz they are still young and need to grow more. But this whole thing has blue really sad and not sure I want to do it.
