Watching the episode last night, I could just keep thinking, really? REALLY? So they want to end with Dany as the mad queen taking after her father, but they just haven't developed that. For years, seasons 1-7 they set her up as the benevolent "Breaker of Chains". Now over the course of what, 10 minutes screen time, she's a crazed lunatic burning women and children? Nah, it doesn't wash.
This could be the reasonalbe ending of the show, but they needed more time, a lot more time, to develop that. This should've been a normal 10 episode season with one more to follow, then they'd have had time to do this right. It just seems rushed now.
GoT season 8 reminds me of the HBO series Rome. Season one was killer. They initially planned to do five seasons, but after the first they only got the green light for one more. So, season two was rushed and lackluster. It's too bad.
Two of my co-workers were saying the same thing as you about Dany's abrupt turn. They thought it felt like an afterthought that was tacked on. When I watched the episode I didn't quite feel the same way. I thought Dany did what she did because of Jon. I think she's paranoid about Jon's claim to the throne and felt that she would rather burn it all down rather than to let him have it. A "If I can't have it, no one will" mindset. Dany's own madness.
Once Dany decided to execute Vary's, I felt that she was not long for that world. Her madness dragged Grey Worm down as well. If Dany and Grey Worm survive the last episode, I'll have a huge issue with that.
Did anyone else feel the white horse near the end of the episode was being warged by Bran? I felt it maybe Bran guiding Arya where she needs to go. The death rides a pale horse symbolism was strong.

1. Jon kills Grey Worm and Dany
2. Arya kills Drogon with Bran's aide (the dragons are the nukes of Westeros and need to come to an end)
3. The Iron Throne is dissolved and each kingdom is self-ruling but Tyrion will govern the South from a rebuilt King's Landing, Sansa will rule the North, etc.
4. Jon goes north, beyond the wall, to live with Ghost in peace (much like a wounded Frodo goes to the Undying Lands in The Lords of the Rings)

I like it, especially #4. But I stick to my guns.

Ok so it was all so rushed, and I totally missed what was going on with this. I thought he was just getting concerned, no idea he was actually activehttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...690a85acf2.jpg

And I heard an interesting theory today on this, which I don't really buy but was interesting. That Varys was slow poisoning Dany and that led to acceleration of the madness

I like it quite a bit actually and I think Tyrion would be the one to figure this out. I think that the Iron Throne will be dissolved and each of the Seven Kingdoms will be self-ruled and Tyrion will rule in the south from a rebuilt King's Landing and Sansa will rule in the north once the dust settles.

My husband and i just watched the most recent episode last night. I don't see why everyone was so stunned. I have seen the writing on the wall about Dany for a while now, at least from the beginning of season 7, and there were definite signs before that. She has been getting more and more ruthless and more paranoid and focused on the throne, not what is good for the people. I am not necessarily pleased that this is where the character has gone, but it was clear for a long time that she would reach a crossroads and have to make a choice.
FWIW my theory is that Aria will die killing Dany, and Jon will rule, but not as a king. I feel like its going to be more of a 7 member council, one from each kingdom, with Jon acting as the mediator. I don't feel like he will accept a crown again, but he really is the best person to rebuild.
