Peanut Butter and Fluff :)

Confirmed. Fluff ate. :gj::gj::fest: So freaking happy all went well. Still gonna take it easy on them especially Fluff as he is a bit more skittish then Peanut Butter. One more feeding with Peanut Butter then I will try handling short times. Will wait a few more feedings with Fluff.

So Peanut Butter had eaten 3 meals and Fluff has eaten 2. Refused 1 in the middle. Here's a pic of Peanut Butter after a quick handling today. Fluff is very skittish still and gonna take a bit more to get comfortable with us. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...5d8f157fea.jpg

So last night Fluff ate a 19g F/T rat weanling. I have to leave it on a plastic lid and its gone in the morning. When I do the zombie rat dance about 3 inches in front of him as his head is sticking out of his hide he rapidly defensive strikes it multiple times and then goes in his hide. He also seems to like to eat every other week. So far he has eaten 3 times and refused 2 in between. He does seem to be a grumpy little guy. He has defensively struck at both me and my wife while we were in his cage to clean or change water if we got too close to his hide. Never any biting just a nose hit. Humidity in his enclosure is between 55 and 70 and temps are 90 on the hot side and 79 on the cool side with temp gun and 88 to 81 ambient. I haven't weighed him since the initial weigh in when we got him as I have been more concerned with getting meals in him. The person I got him from said he fed him every other week so maybe that is just what he got used to? His meals have been 17g, 20g and 19g weanling rats. The 2 refused ones were 13g. Could it be that those were too small? I typically find a small poop and urate about 2 days after feeding.

Peanut Butter refused to eat last week but that was expected as she was in shed. I just figured I'd try and see as I saw some people say they have snakes that eat in shed. No biggie. Last night she refused again. Same average size small rat served the same way as always. She followed it around with her head as it did the Zombie dance but wanted nothing to do with it. I do use a hair dryer to warm it up before offering it. I feed Fluff first and by the time I got to her turn she was completely out of her hide and up against the door looking at us. There was some blood on this rat so may be that was the turn off? I think I read somewhere that someone's snake doesn't like any blood on its food. Not too concerned yet as she has been a great eater and came from someone who also fed every other week and she ate 3 weeks in a row no issues. Maybe she is just taking a little break as she does weigh about 80g more than when I got her. I left the rat in her enclosure over night to see if she changed her mind but no. So I took the opportunity to change out her water while removing the rat and she came out and was watching me the whole time. We have handled her for 15 min sessions 3 times since she finished shedding the other day. She is active and comes out of her ball very quickly. I think she is doing great so I'm not gonna worry about the missed feeds. Her enclosure is almost exactly like Fluff's as far as husbandry goes but being on top of his I have to set the thermostat a few degrees lower to get same results, even though I have a 2" air gap between.

Usually BPs feel braver (more inclined) to eat if they're in their hide, peeking out, as they're naturally ambush predators, so it's not surprising that Peanut Butter
didn't eat that way last time. Never heard of blood on the rodent being a "turn off" -more likely the opposite. Snakes are in trouble if they get that prissy, lol.

I agree it sounds like Fluff is just used to eating every other week...not a big deal.

2 of Peanut Butter's 3 previous feeds were while completely out of the hide. I'm not worried though will try again after 5 days have passed. I seen to remember reading that they don't like to eat dead animals normally hence us doing the heating and zombie dance
