OP "cage aggression" is a common myth. i, nor anyone here, have ever had a snake learn that hand = food. feeding in a separate enclosure provides no benefit to the snake or keeper and can cause more problems than it solves.

thank you for explaining, defintely interseting in the conquest for f/t, the thing im worried about the most is the fact that hes so used to movement before the kill, maybe the heat of the freshly killed will confuse it if I can get it to 'dance' enough to seem life like.

still intense tho, but again, circle of life right..

Yes, the mouse is still the same temp exactly as it was when it was alive.

Would you suggest that the next time I feed I just do it in the enclosure? Should I worry about him being confused about whats happening?

absolutely. as soon as he smells the prey item, he'll know what's up. there's no confusion once he takes a whiff.

A human and a rat or mouse smell different, have different temps generally and move different. I have been bitten by one of our BPs but it wasn't during feeding at all and it was partially my fault and partially inevitable. We thaw all our rats IN our snake room for 2 or 3 hours prior to a hot water dunk to get the snakes riled up. And even doing that I have still never been bitten and once or twice a snake will come out of its tub looking and it needs to be picked up and placed back in by hand.

I guess I've had different experiences with feeding in a separate container. When I had my baby red tail I always fed her in a separate contain. She's never taken a nip at me except when she's in that container. Even if I put her in there and don't have mice out or smell like them she'll come flying out to bite at me if I take the lid off.

INteresting. I will defintely report back after feeding in the enclosure next time around to let you all know if anything strange or unusual happened.

Update! My BP Jake after two weeks of refusing has taken f/t mice! Just had to move it around to trick him a little ;) thanks for all help!!
