I'll be sure to quote you on that one Vaughan LOL.

As far as a rack we've been looking at a few options...Nature's Spirit....Animal Plastics...Boaphile....a couple of others I can't name off the top of my head. It's a hard decision since it's something we want to last and they aren't cheap.

I'm looking at a few racks that hold both larger and smaller tubs as I like that flexibility.

The worst part is wondering how hard the rack is to put together and if there's wiring involved. Mike and I are just dismal at any sort of "handyperson" stuff.

Oh btw...the VPI Pastel now has a name courtesy of my husband's love for Irish mythology

Finn (short for Finnian I believe) named after some sort of warrior in Irish mythology

Blizzard, what I'd suggest is to do as we did perhaps. Find a breeder you feel confident in then allow them to advise and help you pick the best snake for you - keeping in mind your future plans and your current budget.

beautiful new addition! i know you must be dying to get the new little guy and see him in person. you picked a good one! (breeder and snake that is :) )

oh and btw i love the name your husband chose too. and about the racks--i have 2 different racks from casey at natures spirit and they are great. i hope to eventually try out a rack or two from animal plastics as well.

We are going to try to get to the Michigan Herp Society show in September as I hear Casey will be a vendor there so it would be a great opportunity to check out his racks personally and maybe there will be some show specials.

We'd love to have the rack set up when lil Finn arrives but if not he'll do well in his own wee Sterlite while we save up for the rack. I'm just rethinking the house LOL I'm running out of big flat spaces real dang fast!

i've got a nature's spirit rack from casey that holds 6 15qt tubs or 3 32qt tubs. it works well and can hold a variety. i don't think you could go wrong with casey, animal plastics or boaphile. i think the rack cost 170 shipped! i would get in black though, i think black racks create more of a burrow or hide effect because they are darker, just my thoughts.

another reason why racks are great. just wait until you start running out of vertical expansion space. i'm not quite there yet but i'm just waiting for the day. :D :nerd:

Thanks Vaughn I will definitely look into this further and yes I'd rather go with black for that exact effect as well as black is just easier to keep clean LOL.

I don't know why I'm thinking Casey doesn't put belly heat in his racks tho....but then we've looked at so many darn racks my mind may be playing tricks on me.

i know that casey does have the option for belly heat in his larger rack--that is one of the ones that i got from him. i'm not sure if he offers the option on the others--i have one of the shoebox racks from him and it does have back heat but i was fine with that because i use it for baby leopard geckos. he does seem to be very flexible though and i'm sure you could work something out with him regardless.

that particular rack is back heat. he might be able to do belly heat for you, casey has good service and tries to make everyone happy. if the room /area the rack will be in is heated, back heat will do fine. in colder rooms i think belly heat is more effective.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!! What a gorgeous creature! I am so excited for you!

How in the heck did I miss this post earlier today??????

I knew you were getting him, just didn't know when!!! So, when does Finn arrive? I LOVE his name!

One day....one day.... I hope to get a morph or at least het for morph (hopefully with Adam's guidance and hopefully one of his!)

We hoping to have Finn home with us by the end of September (god willing and the car don't die LOL).

Thanks Robin, we are just absolutely thrilled with our choice and Adam's guidance was wonderful. His selection was awesome and it was soooo hard to pick just one!

Now as soon as Baby and Punkin get sexed, they can have their own names. Probably also something from irish or scottish legend/mythology. I think if Punkin turns out to be a male I'm going to use Galen....it means calm. Punkin surely is that considering being moved suddenly to our home with kids and noise after living it's whole life in a quiet adult home. What a lovely snake despite all it's been through it just settled in, started eating and doesn't mind being handled at all. For Baby I swear I'll have to find a name that means..."hey you! got a mouse????"
