    poor girl...
She is starting to warm up though.

Oh.. poor baby. Way too many pits are abused. How can you abuse such an awesome dog? They just loooove people, it's such a shame so many people believe that pits were bred to be people agressive, but it's these abusive owners that make them that way.

I'll get a pit someday.. I'd really like to rescue one, but since I want to have other dogs too, it may not be so easy. If you get a pup and socialize it extensively with other dogs and cats then you have a much better chance of having a peaceful household.

At least they let you adopt pits or mixed pits. Here in the DC Metro area most shelters put pits to sleep straight up, no adoption.
    How sad :(

I get so mad when I see (on Animal Cops, etc) on TV that people have been fighting their pitbulls. I really do not know how humans can be so evil.
My friend's family has a pitbull that was a rescue, I assume he had been used as a fighter, or at the very lest was a trained watchdog who was pretty much taught to kill anyone who walks by. He is OK with the family, but will spaz out with strangers; be OK one minute, then start barking and glawing your ankle. But my boyfriend's cousin has a pit, and he is the most lovable and gentle dog you could imagine. So not all of them are evil.
People should not hold grudges against one certain breed of dog. I know ankle-biter dogs who scare me much more than a gentle Pit would!

Right on, Genevive. Guardian dogs in general get a bad rap. A well trained one can be an indisposible friend of the family. They are wary at all times, but never use more than is necessary to keep their family safe. Most of the guardian work is instinct.. especially in Mastiffs.. once called the gamekeeper's night dog. They would pin the bad guy to the ground, but not attack to injure or kill.

BSL (breed specific legislation) is the worst enemy of pit lovers. They seek to ban certain breeds of dog, rather than individual vicious animals (a better plan for everyone involved)

I concur. Any type of guard dog must be trained and socialized properly.

One of my parent's akitas still has a bit of an issue with strangers coming into the house (she was born in the house, and wasn't around other people other than the family when she was a pup).

The pitbull my parents have is the dumbest dog I have ever known. Absolute sweetheart, but stupid :)

I wouldn't really want a pit, but it's more that I like other breeds of dogs better.

Pits certainly aren't the only dog I love. Main thing about pits is they love people so much, and they're so strong. It'd be fun to train it for weightpull. Plus that I'm a wimp and I want a strong mean looking dog to eat all the icky bad guys.. or at least make them think they'd get eaten. ;)

I also love bull terriers.. they're a mighty handful, but I think they're sooo cute.

AST's and Dogo Argintine's are the only two dogs i'll probably own for the rest of my life

Hey Green man, congrats on the new adoption,
The bully breeds in general are my favs. I tend to be very fond of American Stafordshires. I just helped with a c section on "Karma" A Black and white little American Pit that came into the CT Humane Society very pregnant and stray. We normally don't keep strays as that is Animal Controls department, but she was so sweet, and the truth be told we know what happens to pits (ecspecially pregnant pits) in the pounds. Anyhow she has been hanging around in my office for the last two weeks. She started nesting on Friday morning, and nothing was happening, so doc checked on her, and in the end had to Xray her as the babies just weren't moving along fast enough. The babies were just to big for her and the C-section became an emergency after reading the Xray. Luckily she came out of it ok, and all seven babies are big and healthy too. She is a great mom.
Anyhow that is my pit story for the day..lol
    thanks
