New BP Concerns...

So, I know I need to buy a good thermometer but that will have to wait until payday as I'm low on funds after ordering the thermostat. Right now I just have 2 of the circular ones that are cheap and as I've read probably unreliable. I have them placed on the substrate one on the warm side and one on the cool side. After getting the dimmer and putting the 100w infrared light on the cool side is reading 74 and the warm side is reading 93. Do you think I should turn it down a bit? I'd assume since I put them on the substrate that it is reading the temp of the substrate although I'm by no means sure. I'll be able to buy a good thermometer next week but until then it kind of seems like guess work. Also just curious as to whether I should turn on the uth for a brief time after I feed him again just to help him get some belly heat if my thermostat hasnt arrived yet

I would leave it unplugged . a lot of people use accurite thermometer from wall mart I believe they are 15 bucks. They have a prob to set on the hotside and cold side temp along with humidity.

Wow that's cheap I'll have to see if my local Walmart stocks them. I could easily afford that now. Is this the one http://www.walmart.com/ip/AcuRite-Di...ingMethod=p13n (edit)on second thought its probably this one

So I have a couple more questions. Firstly, I can't seem to find a suitable way to take the stuck eye caps off of my bp he freaks out whenever I get near his head. I don't really think that I should be using a q-tip because I don't want to risk injury to his eye if it can be avoided if anyone has any suitable alternatives I would certainly appreciate it.

Secondly, I am working on getting the stuck shed off still and am having some success in getting large patches of it off. I'm just curious if these wrinkles are dead skin or if it is something else that needs to be addressed.

Last of all. Since I have got him I have seen no urates or feces in the cage whatsoever. Is this normal? I finally got a good thermometer and temporarily a dimmer switch so my hot side is 90 cold side 82 humidity 56%. He is seeming a lot happier. He never really comes out of his hot side hide though. Haven't seen him drink at all either so I guess I'm wondering if that is linked to the wrinkles due to dehydration or not so much. I've been misting him and he doesn't mind. I will be doing another pillow case treatment tonight to try to get more shed off. Does external moisture in any way help hydrate bp's? Thank you for putting up with my questions I'd be lost without this forum.

I would probably get a plastic shoe box (with lid) and fill it with barely warm water so that it comes up to halfway up his height and I'd throw a washcloth in with him. He'll absorb water through his cloaca and he'll be sitting in water so plenty of opportunity to drink. I'd leave him for 15-30 minutes then gently rub him with the washcloth. I wouldn't touch his eyes at all.
