after we spoke on the phone, apparently the male pastel enchi got sick and she asked if she could replace him with something else she had.

The problem I see right away from the first screen shot is sending the money as a gift option. yes Paypal chages the seller a small percentage fee, but it is to protect the buyer for exactly the situation you are in. Now I am fortunate that no one I have purchased from has ever asked me to send the money as a gift, but if anyone ever did it would raise a red flag. Respectable sellers know that great customer service is just as important and sometimes more important than the value of the animal weather its $1000 animal or a $20 animal. Some times things go wrong, and the buyer protection is there to protect you as the buyer.

Agreed - it is also against Paypal rules to ask someone to do that when making a purchase. Respectable breeders will calculate those fees in the price they charge for the animal. Say I know that I'll be hit for $20 for something I want to sell for $200. I'd price the animal at $225 to cover those fees. Of course, that's an extreme example of a fee, but you get what I mean. :)
