I name them because it is easier to say "Nigel" than it is to say 12M1Fire.

Hey thats a thought. I could just give my snakes inmate numbers instead of names.

I don't name mine, they name themselves. I also need something to ID which is which for the feeding logs.

I don't name the ones I plan to sell though, because once they're named, they're usually not leaving.

I normally don't name pets until they show me some sort of personality. I have a bumblebee named Homer because he's a lovable idiot. I have a normal named Bracelet, because she managed to nicely tie up my daughter's hands one day while she was being held. I have an ackie monitor named Digit, because she came to me missing a couple toes. Heck, the v. rudicollis I just got is currently named Creeper, because the kid said it was creeping her out. The only animal I have that was pretty much pre-named is Goblin, our rottweiler. Turned out to be accurate, as that's what he spent a lot of time doing at the food bowl.

I think the biggest reason I name my snakes is that I can name them whatever cool name I want and it won't seem like a weird name for the pet. Have you ever met someone with an odd name for their dog or cat? Lol like the Family Guy episode with Adam West laughing at the cat named Paul. Also my favorite female name ever is Zelda it's just so beautiful but I know I couldn't name a kid zelda if/when I have one. My family would never let me live it down lol. BUT I can name my snakes whatever and it won't be weird! So far I have a Levi, a Bubo, and a Sheik. All have little stories to their names and fit their personality perfectly. It's fun naming your snakes! Also it makes me feel like they are more of a pet when they have a name instead of an ID or just called by whatever morph they are. Idk in my mind when they have an ID code or just named by morph they just seem like objects instead of actual pets. Reminds me of a grocery store worker labeling cans and putting them back on the shelf. For babies that I sell though they will not be getting named of course because they wouldn't be staying. If I name it it's stays! This is all just my opinion by the way. What my wacky mind gets from this topic.

I name my snakes food the same reason any of my other animals are named: to give them an ID that's easier to say than a number or their appearance. Its also easier for my husband since I do have a couple snakes who look the same (as far as he's concerned), and he knows less than I do when it comes to morphs. The only animals I don't name are those that may eventually become food (ie rats and chickens, although I have named my favorite chickens who I will keep even after they've outlived their productivity).

My cats care, and they known their names, well they respond to them but cats suck anyway

To differentiate them? Why do children name their dolls? I guess a part of it is because we are social animals and like to name things. Some people name their vehicles and boats too, and those definitely don't care.

It's actually bad luck to have a boat without a name lol.
