Predrilling is a must, especially in melamine.

Ok, I did not pre drill. I used my Brad Nailer. It worked perfectly.

I bought a square piece of plastic lumber. 2 inches by 2 inches. Tge length was double the width of your tank opening (cut in half, one piece for the top, one piece for the bottom). Then using a table saw, I set the depth of the blade to aboit 1/4 inch (bottom rail) and made a cut about 1/2 in on the rail. Then made a few more passes to widen that track until it was wide enough for glass to fit slighty loose. Repeat steps for another track about 1/4 away from the first one. Now you have 2 tracks 1/4 deep. For the top rail, do it the same way but make the tracks an inch deep so you can slide doors up to remove them.

    I hope this helped.

I took a section of melamine cut to fit the front and cut out the center to the size area that i wanted my sliding doors to be.

It's 2 inches. Plenty off depth to keep being in. I wouldn't change a thing. Works perfect
