Re: Opionion of offensive videos WOBP are promoting please
as somebody previously mentioned, it is their personal right to put out a video with whatever material they see fit. We may not like it but it is still their right. With that said, I cannot stand this guy. I think he's a clown, and even worse he has no idea what he's talking about. I especially can't stand the way he uses the word genetic. 90 percent of the time he uses this word it should be genes or gene. Not only does he not know what he's talking about he speaks very poor English and he has no message to convey. People have referred to this as an educational video, and for the life of me I can't understand on what level anything in any of these videos might be considered educational. I would have bothered to say something, except these guys don't seem to care. Their attitude is if you don't like it don't watch. They absolutely have a point that it's their right to put these videos out there and it's my right not to watch. From here on out, I'm pretty sure I'll exercise that right

Haven't watched yet, but from what everyone says it sounds eerily similar to videos of "pit bull breeders" that I have ever seen... Trying to convey the "thug" image to move their stock and make the animals seem more "gangsta", etc. and we've all seen how good pit bull owners have to deal with that stereotype. That's all we need as snake keepers... To have to fight a thug image as well as the fear most folks have of snakes. *sigh*
It is their right to put up whatever they want, but this definitely does not make WOBP look professional.

its just a badly done video, they tried to spice it up and make it more interesting, and that failed.
i remember a while back someone on youtube tried to do some kind of reptile news show. and the content was actually good. but he/they had the glorious idea of having the presenter do it in a full body gorilla costume, with a fake gorilla voice. it was hard to understand anything he said due to the mask and the gorilla voice. it was funny for 10 seconds, followed by 10 minutes of struggling to understand what he was saying. it was awkward, and the whole project failed.
i dont think hiphop or rap music is a problem, i think it can be used for reptile videos. people use heavy metal or hard rock in reptile videos all the time. the first mistake is that for background music, you want a piece that represents the style of music and sounds good but that does not contain lyrics. or only minimal lyrics.
using bad words / curse words also isnt necessarily bad. these words are powerful. but i dont see why you would want them in a reptile video. and throwing them around in quantity and for no good reason doesnt make sense. for example, for years "The Young Turks", the biggest news show on the internet, did not use curse words and beeped them out just like the big cable news channels do it. recently they changed their policy, and now, when some corrupt but rather powerful politician threatens with thermonuclear war or something crazy like that, they might drop the F-bomb uncensored. but i dont see how the discussion could ever get heated and emotional enough in a reptile video.
im sure its a clumsy attempt at comedy/satire or something. like they are trying too hard to get an idea to work that looked good on paper, but turned out to be a bad idea.

I agree..

Wow. That is some trashy talk and music. I didn't even watch the whole video because I found the first few minutes to be very offensive. This is not the way to teach the younger generation. I don't mind some rap music but I don't really listen to any of it if it has that kind of language in it.

There are a few things here:
WOBP - I don't think they should have to screen every single video that shows up on the feed. If someone has a proven video that's moderately well put together and content-focused on ball pythons I think it has every right to be there. It may be in bad taste according to some people, but that's a matter of opinion. Overall I can see a reason why they would censor a specific video due to excessive cursing, maybe. This is the internet though...
Mojo TV - I think they have every right to make their videos however they want. Is it in bad taste? Again, a matter of opinion. I would argue bad taste in some of the other 'big name' videos though as they occasionally do things like make sexist comments, taunt animals to bite at employees and have a laugh (stressing the animals we care about in a video is bad taste in my opinion), feeding videos (bad taste in my opinion), and the list goes on and on.
As a reptile community, overall we are not the most politically correct crowd. I would say some of the culturally distasteful elements being highlighted on this particular video are not more damaging than some of the culturally distasteful elements on other videos where they play screaming death metal, act like jackasses, etc.
Bottom line for me is this is the internet. Nobody is forcing you to partake. WOBP promises no specific family-friendly atmosphere on their site. I'm sure there is a comparable "World of Bald ________" which uses the same language being chastised here and offers up much more culturally distasteful content. Go whine about something else. A rap song intro to an educational video (the content there IS helpful and IS informative) should be the least of your concerns.
Respectfully, my 2 cents.

I absolutely think they should have to screen the videos they post on their site. While yes they have the right to post what they want, it doesn't mean there wont be negative repercussions. Everyone has the right to tell their boss to shove it, in turn most likely they will be out of a job. The same way I imagine few people will want to buy animals from these guys after seeing how they conduct themselves. We can talk about "opinions" all day. Those videos are loaded with racial and sexist material, and put the hobby in a bad light.

I wonder where they got their information? I also wonder why he skipped over the power ball and champ x spider? also I have never heard of any confirmed super womas.

This is a very difficult subject for me because of how long I made videos for and how much effort I know goes into making a quality video so I can only imagine how difficult it must be for these guys to read a thread like this.
That all being said I think that they should be allowed to use whatever style they want to, that's their right, we don't have to watch and we don't have to follow (I personally like the guys but I don't like the style of video, they asked me so I let them know, I didn't say to change it, just said I didn't like it). If what they are doing is not your cup of tea then don't watch. I do believe there should be a language warning at the beginning of each video so that if there's kids around or you are offended by that sort of thing you can make your decision on watching or not before it's too late.

No one is saying they don't have a right to make whatever videos they want. What people are saying is it is very unprofessional and looks bad on their business. I've never heard of these guys until watching this video. That's a pretty bad first impression. Saying we don't have to watch it is very true, but when you're putting videos up with your business name on them, you should be striving to make videos that aren't going to drive away your customer base.
