Personally, I'm all about clay pots(for larger snakes) and clay pot bases(for smaller snakes)... they're cheap, easy to make (just bang on an edge with a hammer), have a low profile, and are heavy enough to make your ball python feel very secure. Opacity aside, that rubbermaid will be lightweight and big... both area wise and height.

Clay pots or bases are great for regular hides, and the coconut fiber works great for humid or regular hides. There are a lot of great hide options out there. I still like Hanover's igloo that I made him, though I wish I'd glazed the darn thing. :) And I'd like to thank my fans ... ;)

i use a old speaker box just punch out the bottom,and in the holes in the corner i put plants to hide the opening so he can feel secure.

i use my lil brother shoe box for the cool side and a exoterra hide on the hot side.
