Man my eyes must be a lot worse than I thought, 'cause I don't see anything that even remotely resembles a calico or sugar of even the lowest expression in that snake.

It's a pretty reduced pattern normal with great blushing. I have two myself. But a sugar? Not in this lifetime. I've seen low expression sugars, some so low if I didn't know the breeder and the look I'd swear they weren't, but this thing don't got the look.

And if by some miracle it were a sugar? You couldn't PAY me to get that snake as a sugar. Not even if you gave me 5 grand would I take that snake as a sugar.

Of course, it isn't up to me. Opinions expressed in this post are strictly those of the author and in no way constitute anything set in stone. If you think it might be a sugar and the price is right for you, then by all means if it is what you want, buy it.

The only place I could possibly (and I am reaching on this one) is down near the tail. Looks like there are a few white specs there. Having said that I would pass for a better, more sure example myself

    What was the pairing?

Could be a decent Sugar/Calico Fire. Belly shot would help.

    Here is my Sugar Fire....

I see low white sugar/calico. I agree with everyone else its not a good example. I wouldn't buy.

Low whites will produce high whites and visa versa. I personally have both high white and low white calicos and sugars. Sometimes depending on the amount of color and pattern on the low white calico it may appeal to me more than a highlight. It's just going to depend on what you as the buyer like an animal if it's a calico and you like the look of the animal then buy it. But if you're looking for an animal that just screams typical example of the mutation then that one's not really your best bet.

i like low white piebalds and high white piebalds, and i like high white calicos. i dont like low white calicos. looking at the thread, i can see i am not the only one.

just for the off chance that some epigenetics or some polygenetic traits do somehow play a role, i would treat this one as a normal, while i can see that it is a calico, like, a really bad calico. like, (made-up example) out of a 9 egg clutch you get 4 calicos and the worst one is this. and the best one is picked by the breeder as a holdback for the future. and the two in the middle still have a decent amount of white and get picked up as a pet or as breeders. and we are talking abot number 4, and some people do not even see calico and wonder if it even is one.

im sorry. if you want a calico, this BP is not what you want. i posted a good example on page two. sure, the amount of white does have randomness to it. still, this one heavily conflicts with a rule of thumb that goes like: "breed the best examples of the morph, do not breed the worst examples of the morph", or something like that. just look at the other responses: either its a really very bad calico, or its a normal with some granite-look. or its just a normal.

EDIT: pictures of the parent snakes would help a lot, really.

^ This. White is not the only indicator of a calico/sugar. The pattern and highlights around the pattern on the back half of the snake are definitely calico/sugar. Decent pictures would give a better idea of the color quality. Level of white is a matter of personal preference.

    X2

I have a low white calico, but she looks far from normal. A good
Calico/sugar can be a pattern changer as well as have bright orange colorations and outlining. Amount of white is definitely *not* the only trait of a calico/sugar.
