The juvies may rough and tumble at night. Rats are nocturnal after all. Adults are pretty quiet for the most part. And nursing babies can be surprisingly loud. You can hear them nurse and they squeak whenever their nest is disturbed or when the mother moves away. If you were in a different room, you wouldn't be able to hear them overall

Go ahead and keep your rats together if your tubs are large enough.

Thanks, I'll be fine with the noise I sleep like a rock. I just don't want it to bother anyone else i live with. And i was going to get a 64 qt tub (23L x 17W x 11H) that fits on my rack, would that be okay for two?

I bred rats for a while. As long as you handle your breeders they will ne docile. They don't stink as bad. You can also put atiny bit of vanilla extract in their water to hold down smell. I uswd 20 and 29 gal tanks and left the male with the females even when they had pups and had no problems. You do have to remember hat males can and will kill pups if they don't think they are their's or if there isn't enough food and water. So will females. I helped at a pet store hat bred both rats and mice and the mice were disgusting. So were the ats but that was because they had so many and didn't clean properly. I moved the babies when they were weaned and seperated male and female. I had a 55 gal grow out tank and used aspen with weekly thorough cleaning. I did food and water every day and my breeders and hold backs were handled daily. I don't do aggressive rodents. If they got aggressive they got fed off. Even if they were a breeder. I also went with the ones bred to be pets instead of feeders as my breeding stock. They were a lot more docile than feeder stock that isnt handled as much. Good luck on what ever you decide.
