Popping can only be done in very young animals. I think even after a couple weeks old you can't do it anymore and they must be probed. Basically, if you don't buy from a breeder, go to a qualified person (ie., vet or experienced keeper, Herp society..) and have it probed.

Completely agree.
Their may be times where you will see some qualified breeders (at expos for instance) pop a snake in front of you. We have done it on occasion, but the best and safest way is to have the animal probed.
