The dark one is the subsahara, the light one is just a really big ball python.

I would very much like to see pictures of the Pastel subsaharan. I don't believe I've ever seen a morph that large. Pictures of morphs people claim are that big, but pictures that prove it, no. Does she carry the massive head that is signature to the subs?

Tell ya what, Gale....hold that thought. The next time I go over Joe's (hopefully sooner than later) I will get a pic of her on the scale. But she is massive, and when he saw her at the show he snagged her up quick.

Neat thread! It's cool to see the size of full grown girls since I mostly see younger pics.

One of my balls is bigger than the others....

Shes about 3000+ grams. Have 2 others close behind at 2500-2700 grams. I cant wait till we see who has the 4000+ grammers!!

Noob question!! Will ball pythons naturally get THIS big from normal feeding, or do you guys feed them more to plump them up more for breeding purposes?

Scarlet our 08 blush back black pastel, 2500 grams and starting to glow in this picture.
She was 3000 grams before growing follicles this season.

Yes they do, normal feeding for mine. There are genetics and human nature at play. The sub Saharan royals tend to be bigger with very large heads. Mine is one. Her offspring also tend to be large too.

Big females often lay more and larger eggs. This means a breeder is likely to keep and regularly breed a large female. Size tends to be a trait that is passed along. The end result is larger animals.

The last factor is the tech and understanding of royals in captivity is increasing. Years ago there were misunderstanding and imperfect housing. Now housing is improved and understanding so longer lived healthier animal are resulting. This is allowing them to grow to the full potential. Again bigger animals.

There is still lots of learning! There still is no exact idea of upper age limits. We know 47 years in captivity but that animal was an adult when brought in from the wild.

All of my larger girls get rats in the 100/125 grams range once a week nothing more.

Female under 2000 grams get rats in the 80/100 grams.

I have raised all my animals since they were hatching.

The only time I feed a little heavier (every 5 days) is prior to breeding season, I do so while they take it and before they start fasting.

I've always wondered who on the forum has the oldest ball..
