To make it a good enough substitue for a whole prey item you would need more than just calcium.

If you live near a hatchery it can be a ridiculously cheap (or is that cheep) food source. Those places will often euthanize the male chicks that they hatch by the barrel full and will often just throw them out.

dont know about all that, but i know this guy has been doing this for years, keep in mind though he breeds corn snakes, hes never fed turkey necks to BP's, or tried since he dosent own any, this guy just breeds corn snakes and ASF's.
