Alrighty guys, I'm in a pickle with what I wanna do. I want to build a rack and have it in my room. Problem is I can't use anymore heat tape because If I do, my power bill will go through the roof. I have 2' of 11" flexwatt.
So, should I build a closed air rack, and use the tape as back heat? This would keep the ambient temp in the front of the rack around 82, and the rear around 89.

Or, open air rack and use a space heater to keep the ambient at a constant 83-84? I don't want to use the space heater AND heat tape, especially since its starting to warm up now outside.

I got the tubs from Walmart. I think it was like $8 a tub. The board were 2'x8' which I cut into 4' high. I also took another one and cut them to 16" so I got like 5 boards out of one 2'x8'. The heat tape and thermostat was from the bean farm. Total amount was about $250 including the heat tape and thermostat (which was $100) it holds 7 bins. My next one is going to be for adults.

A closed rack will hold heat in better. I will say that right now I have 2 12 x 12 uth, 2' of 11" THG heat tape and about 5' of 4" heat tape as well as a little oil heater running and don't see much change in my bill month to month.

    What Rob said. ;)

It's the VE-300X2 from Reptile Basics. So far it's working good and I'm very pleased! :)

I'm trying to build my own rack and I like yours minus the melamine lol But I looked up that t stat on LLL (Bare with me I'm still learning about all the thermastats and how they hook up to the flexiiwatt) And it looks like you only have one and each tub seems to have its own digital reading? Could you explain to me how that works?

It's an insulated foam board with an aluminum skin. Works great and super easy to work with. I finished out the whole room that way, stays very constant and easy to clean.
