Re: 911 i just found a mite in the water bowl
Ya I would say bump the humidity up. Ya mites thrive better in higher humidity but why make the a bad shed add to the problem. Also, if your diligent and can catch the snake actually shedding, take her out and clean entire cage throughly. When the snake sheds all the mites come off with the shed so the sooner the better. (NOT A 100% EFFECTIVE STILL NEE THE PAM) but that will help the problem also.

Also any hides that arent plastic bake at 250 for 30 min to an hour along w water dishes... Mites lay eggs and they get in the crevices. The heat will kill those.

The instructions on the can explicitly say to treat the substrate, not the bare cage. Which did you do? Depending on what the "stuff" is, you might want to treat it with PAM as well. His water bowl can go back in the cage once the PAM has aired/dried out.

Everything can go back in.... The can says treat substrate.... My experience is I dump the substrate at 1st sign of mites. I treated just the tub also. Nonill effects you will be fine. I usually wait a few weeks before i put them back on regular substrate. I do this so I can monitor if mites come back alot easier on paper towels.

I don't want to derail this thread too much but how would she have gotten the mites in the first place? I thought mites only come in by new snakes, clothes from expos, and used equipment?
