Thank you everyone for your support. It's amazing to me that I only had Penelope for a little over 2 months and I already loved her so much. I haven't moved any of her things yet, but that's mainly because I really don't know where to put them at the moment.

On the nice side, my sister and I did a little classic girl healing treatment and went shopping last night. Nothing major, just a few candles and things for my room (and LOTS of chocolate!), but it helped to get out of the house for a couple hours.

All of us girls in the house feel the loss of Penny since she was so loving and sweet and her favorite thing in the world was to be held and petted (with swimming coming in at a very close second!) and we adored her and her snake kisses. My brother-in-law said I was a great Mommy to her and that it showed just how much attention I paid to her when I saw that she had gotten sick. Of course, he tried to make me feel better by saying that there was little I could do because it's pretty hard to take perfect care of reptiles and that even breeders and professionals have ones that get sick and pass away, and that she might not have made it even if we had gotten to the vet earlier because she got really bad really fast.

But in all, I'm healing. I miss her like crazy today and keep half-hoping to see her swimming in her water dish every time I look over at her tank. Perhaps one day I'll get another beauty I can love just as much. :)

    Sorry for your loss.

Please make sure you very thoroughly disinfect the cage and everything in it if you intend to use it again at any point. If I had a reptile die to sickness, I think I'd probably throw most of the stuff out to be honest.

Well, she didn't have much in there. The subrate is being disposed of, as well as her hideaway since it was just a Kleenex box I had cut in half for her. (Yeah, I know. It was a temporary thing, and I had planned on getting her a PVC one, but she didn't seem to give a hoot what it was made of because she could curl up in it nice and snug and felt very secure.) The tank might get trashed, too, because there's actually a crack running along the bottom, but I could silicone that if I really wanted to. And her water dish was a plastic Tuppaware container.
