Also, don't let it bother you if your snake seems a little jumpy to start. All the small ones can be jumpy just because they aren't used to being handled a lot and we seem so big to them. All of my ball python babies (even the most nervous ones) always settle down and become super chill after a few weeks or so of handling. They are such awesome, laid back snakes...you'll grow to love them.
On a side note. I work for a public aquarium and we have several snake exhibits. We get a few summer interns each year (mostly girls) and they almost always come in afraid of snakes. We have had at least 7 or 8 interns over the last 3 summers that completely got over their fear of snakes in a few months to the point where they bought their own pet snakes by the end of their internship. What's even cooler is when you speak to them a year later and they've purchased a 2nd or 3rd pet snake since then. Always proud to see someone overcome their fear of these awesome little animals, so congratulations to you.
