Anyone know how exactly this works? I mean on other forums people have said this doesn't work since they're not amphibians and don't absorb the gatorade/pedialyte.

who knows if it works or not
we all know water works so i'd say just stick to that

gatorade seems like a myth to me but who knows
i won't beleive it untill i see some actual scientific evidence that it does work

    Justin,

If the water is warm to you, it is too hot for your snake. That's probably why she got grouchy with you! It should feel cool to you.
I have no scientific evidence to back up my opinion, but I don't believe that a snake's skin is water permeable, as amphibians skin is. I am certainly no expert, however, and people with more experience than I soak their critters. Whether it works or not, it can't hurt!

well if they bath in it...they may drink from it. i think thats what you want to happen. but i dont think gatorade its the best thing to do. its got other things in it (like sugar). i dont know about pedialyte...buts its probably better then gatorade. also...the water shouldnt feel hot....but not too cool. barely warm is more like it.

I usually shoot the water with my temp gun, and when it says 84-87 degrees, it feels cool to our touch. I think that feels perfect, so that's what I bathe my ball pythons in when they get a rinse off.

For what it's worth, humans can absorb water through our skin, and my vet told me to soak Snyder for her dehydration, to absorb water. She also gave her sub-cutaneous electrolytes and water. Based on this, it's my guess that a diluted pedialyte/gatorade-water mixture would do a dehydrated snake good, but I have no proof, just my vet's word.
