Re: What do you do for a living?
Pretty much same as Marla except I dont have to do the database stuff (just get to deal with the consequences). Systems Admin and Support at a software testing facility. UNfortunately this entails working in a hypercooled server-filled room rife with the white noise of a thousand fans, air handlers etc and not a single window. If there is anything remotely graphic/design related I have that thrown my way as well. If I got paid for all the different hats I had to wear . . . . well I wouldnt batch about it so much lol.

Nothing, I'm a drain on society.

I just realized that I didn't really explain what I do. The people in my department work on new projects, try to come up with new ways to do things, and we kind of act as "consultants" for the rest of the company. Members of the department often work on several things at once, and may get called out to one of the other plant sites to troubleshoot issues. Except for our 2 administrative assitants, everyone in my department is an engineer. It's mostly mechanical and electrical. About 7 or 8 people have Ph. D.'s and most have a Master's.

Re: What do you do for a living?
I am finishing up my second Bachelor's degree right now in the Health Science field. I already have an associates degree in General Studies (which amounts to just about nothing! LOL) and a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. I am taking the first of my three New York State teacher certification exams on Saturday. I have to take the Phys Ed Content Specialty exam (this saturday), then an education for the Secondary level exam in May &, supposing I pass all of my health science classes this semester, I will hafta take a Health Content exam to get my dual state certification to teach Phys Ed & Health.
PLEASE do not call it "gym class" around me! LOL! That makes me crazy! Gym class was when you had a big fat cigar smokin dude in a wife beater roll a ball out & tell you to play. I educate children on how to remain physically active for the duration of their lifetime by introducing them to new & exciting options. It really is a thrilling time for us! For those of you who are no longer in High School, how many of you had the opportunity to go mountain biking, kayaking, in-line skating, cross country skiing or rock wall climbing in your physical education classes!?
I am taking next year off of school because of the wedding. I hope to get into a grad school by the start of the fall 2006 semester and, if i can get good enough grades there, my ambition is to get a Doctrine of Education cuz I think that Dr. Z sounds pretty damn cool! LOL!
As for my employment right now, well, i was trying to live off of substitute teaching but that did not work out because of my limited availability. So, I am going on Tuesday for my training at Lowes to work in their Outside Lawn & Garden department this spring, summer & maybe beyond. Hopefully by next September I will have been able to find a job teaching PE, Health or both!
Re: What do you do for a living?
Hey man that sounds lot better than the masochistic excuses for PE that haunted my youth - i thin kthe neatest thing we may have done was crab soccer lacrosse and field hockey. I went through the same ordeal trying to substitute and eventually realized that even teaching full time I could not support a 3 child family. Hats off - I sincerely think teachers are underpaid, underappreciated and undervalued in our society!

Re: What do you do for a living?
my job is not as exciting as everyone elses ... but it is interesting at times. lets see im 20 (till june) and right at this time i work as a "Certified Pet Stylist" (fancy name meaning i can give dogs a hair cut) but i do still have my license for my CMA (certified med aid) but only level one! eventually i would like to work at a zoo or vet office but i have to go to school first and to be honest i just dont have the time or the money to right now. but if i move back to my home town next year i am just going to open up my own grooming salon. see my job is not that interesting ... except for when i get bit!!! :) those are the fun days!
