I understand the whole process except how you actually get the stamps... I assumed there was some sort od screening process for people who get them...?
...In IL... NOPE.. MY boss gets 35-40 hours a week and her husband makes $4,000 a month.. They have 3 kids.. Like most families they lie and say they get her job to support there family.. If you want to live off my money IL is the way to go... :rage:
And The Ferrari guy, he tries to play down it's his "friends" car but after putting in complaints concerning him for MONTHS they are finally investigatory him. In the end, I doubt they'll do a thing...

They only see what you give them... They get HUNDREDS of request a day... They just skim your info.. It's hard to grasp until you get involved in it.. And IL is one of the few states that just gives away money, most other states actually do check you by your social and do background checks.. If that happened IL's foodstamp usage would drop to maybe...65% tops? rough guess.. I'm not saying everyone on it doesn't need it.. Hell I'd love to have it.. BUT in the end, some people do need it, others don't.. It more or less comes down to do you have a lazy rep that files for you..
Re: They take our snakes and now this?
Most grocery stores are equipped to distinguish between approved items and non approved items. This would not be an undo burden. I am pretty well for this. I think their should be restrictions on what food is purchased and where its purchased. Food can cost 2 to 3 times as much at a gas station vs a real grocery store. I also think a few non food items should be allowed on the list. Such as soap, tooth paste, feminin products, razors, deodorant and other basic hygiene products. Eating is important but being clean promotes health and increases your chance of getting a job or a better job.

I get that America is the land of the free and the home of the brave and people feel encroached upon when the government starts telling them what they can spend their money on and what they can't but this is different.
If you don't want the government to tell you what you can and can't buy with the money they are giving you then I suggest getting your act together and buying your own sweets.
Just think of it like this: when you go on welfare or receive food stamps, it's like you're a little kid again getting allowance from your parents. The parents (in this case, the government) should know exactly what that kid spends his or her money on because it is daddy and mommy's money until the kid can grow up and find a job that supports their need to buy junk food, lotto tickets and hookers.
Sorry if I offended anyone with that last paragraph but usually reality is a hard pill to swallow. As a tax payer, I would be disgusted beyond reason if I saw someone buy a cart load of crap and pay for it with MY MONEY, because in reality, that's what taxes are (it's "our" money but I'm sure you get the point).
And how is buying a cart load of crap food going to benefit the person in the long run? Unhealthy food usually leads to unhealthy body which leads to missed work because of increased sickness rate which means less money for them. It's a vicious circle that should be stopped. If you don't have extra money to buy your kid an ice cream cone after you use your food stamps on healthy food for them, then don't buy it! Simple as that!
