Egg laying question

What I've done this year with the substrateless is gotten a container, tilted it on it's side and hot-glued a support underneath to keep it at an angle. I've filled the lower half with those shiney decorative pebble things, filled with water, and then placed the light crate over the pebbles, so that it is level while the container is still tilted...if that makes sense.

This way, I'm hoping any condensation that forms on top of the lid will just run straight down, and since I've filled half the container with pebbles, I don't have to worry about the eggs tumbling/sliding away.

Interesting, do you have a pic of that? I was trying to think of a way to get the grid attached to the tub so I can use just water underneath. I'd be afraid of it failing tho and having eggs drop into the water. I'm gonna take a strole thru home depot and see what might work well :)

Just cut 5 PVC pipes that are 1" In diameter 2" Long. Hot Glue or Super Glue them into the 4 corners of the tub your gonna use and one in center. Then take the light diffuser and lay it on top, Toss in your water and you wont have to worry about it falling.

I do actually, I was meaning to respond to this thread before but then I forgot :P

Changing up the incubation method a bit this year. On the right, you can see the lid has a ton of built up condensation, and there's risk of it dripping down onto the eggs and causing problems. On the left, is my "new and improved" incubation container. You can see there there is little to no condensation on the lid.:

Excuse the ghetto toilet paper rolls, I'm still perfecting this method and looking for something else to keep the bin angled. But for now, this will do. I hot-glued the paper towel roll to the tub :P

This method keeps the eggs completely flat and eliminates the worry of the eggs tumbling if the bin is at too steep of an angle. This still keeps the "roof" on a pretty steep angle, so any condensation that does form just runs right down and back into the water pool. The eggs are placed on the light crate & the little marbles you see.

Day 7 and the eggs look even better than when I found them in the females bin. No dimples whatsoever:

rich do you put in any kind of substrait or is it just water

i use vermiculite

Is that to keep it from sloshing around? Also a couple other questions for ya. Do you worrie about it being to wet, do you use press and seal and how do you avoid it dripping on the eggs

when using substratless method no such thing as too wet. And this method dont use press n seal or youll have wet eggs in day or so. And i dont deal with water on the tub sides or lid with this method
