why would the ban drive the prices up? they will be illegal to transport across state lines, so unless you're dealing illegally or purely intra-state, I see burms becoming economic liabilities from a business standpoint.

    illegal things can be expensive

It is a shame that the burms are part of the ban. They are truly the gentle giants of the snake world. They are also some of the best looking! IMO

Well around here I know at least people are doing one of two things, getting rid of theirs or buying as many as they can while they can. Breeders are shutting down. And from a business standpoint you should recognize the law of supply and demand...People are still going to want them but not as many are going to be produced. Prices around here have gone up almost $100 already. Supply is going to tank and while demand will drop off to an extent as well I don't think it's going to fall off as much as production.. That equals price increase. From the business standpoint you were talking about yes to some they will be liabilities, to others it will be seen as a profitable opportunity. Location also has to be a factor.. In fl and va the laws are a lot more strict than say here in ga and definitely sc

I'm not trying to start a pissing match, but the laws regarding Burmese pythons in Virginia and Florida are completely different. for example, if you lived in Florida instead of Virginia, you could not have just purchased the burm. they're still legal to own and sell in VA, until the Lacey Act amendments take effect. at that point they're still legal to own unless the general assembly continues down its current path.

No that's what I meant. I have a lot of family in va and I've looked at all that crap they are trying to pass its all crazy. I mean even boas? That is nonsense you know?

    But they are not illegal.

You just can't import or transport them across state lines. That was the rule change to the Lacey Act. You can still own them and you can still breed them.

So on one hand, we are worried about an flood of these animals on the market due to the BAN, and now we are worried about a shortage.

Personally I think we will see a huge flood of the market that will dry up really quick. And because of the law it's going to vary state to state. And yes WE know they aren't illegal but the average person is going to be like oh you have a burm aren't those illegal?! I've already explained it to about a million people that know nothing about snakes except what they see on the news or Internet.
