Thanks for sharing! I always get excited to see Angolans.
Did not know they were Illegal in Canada. Can you explain? Thanks in advance.

From what I understand (this info has been passed onto me through a friend, I will check and validate it..)
My Understanding is that Angolans are illegal to import as the are illegal to export from Angola. Angolan Pythons are their national snakes, and it's illegal to take them out of the country. So any animals in the USA or anywhere else on the globe are technically smuggled or the product of smuggled animals. Canada wont allow them through the border (again, I'll do my own research and get back to you guys).
That's what I have been told. I'll see what I can find for ya'll.
Cheers,
Chris.
Okay I can't find any information to substantiate the claims that they are illegal. I must have been mistaken. My appologies. I found some information about the Angolan Civil War that had affected export up to this point.
I'll keep looking.. I don't know why he would tell me they are illegal if they are not.
Mind you I am interested in breeding them, and he might want to deter me from jumping on the project before he does. I have been looking for them in Canada for a while now and I can't find any LOL I figured there was validity to his claims.
Just goes to show you, do your own homework.

Angolans have been on my wish list for a while. At the last Raleigh show, I was about to get one. I had the snake in my hands and the cash, but then another snake on my wish list caught my eye. After comparing and debating for a while, I settled on the other snake, who was a couple of years older, a little more relaxed, and looked like he really wanted a home, so I came home with the Occindentalis. Maybe I'll find an Angolan at the upcoming Myrtle Beach expo

I am certain if they are NOT illegal in CANADA, you can get them shipped to somewhere in the border on the US side if you have a friends address, you can then drive down to the US and pick them up and drive them home. Again that is only if they are NOT illegal in CANADA. As far as the war still ongoing in Angola, this is the reason collectors have not been able to collect wild specimen to introduce to captive populations, but once this war is over if ever, you may see morphs of Angolans start to show up in collections from captive breeding, just like the Ball pythons.

The Angolan is one species I think would be better kept "pure", to say I hope there's no Angolan x Ball crossbreeding or morphs. A "regular" Angolan is too nice on it's own IMO.
