A GTP would be more of a display animal, they don't tolerate handling as well as the other 2. Having had both carpets and rainbows I would think that you would enjoy a carpet more. Rainbows can be temperamental and require high humidity. And some can be picky eaters. Don't get me wrong, I love my rainbows but I think as a pet you cant beat a carpet. They are beautiful, most are docile, and they have something about them that almost makes them seem more intelligent then other snakes. Maybe others that have carpets can chime in but they just seem more inquisitive then most snakes. Both can and usually are nippy as babies but most calm down as adults. I don't think you will regret a carpet but that's just my opinion.

You can usually find standard Carpet Pythons starting around $200. The Jaguar, Tiger, and Granite morphs can run up into the thousands. Just like Ball Pythons, it will depend on the quality of the color/pattern, bloodline, and breeder. When considering a Carpet Python, there are three main types that you are most likely to come across:
1) West Papuan, or Irian Jaya. (Morelia Spilota Variegata) Average 4-6 feet.
2) Jungle. (Morelia Spilota Cheynei) Average 6-8 feet.
3) Coastal. (Morelia Spilota McDowelli) Average 8-10 feet.
These are fairly slim bodied snakes. They are alot more active and curious than Ball Pythons. They are also semi-arboreal, so they love to climb on branches, perches, or shelves that you provide.

I bet you could find a young jungle carpet for around $100, maybe less.
