Trans-Siberian Orchestra, either the Beethoven's Last Night or the Night Castle albums.

If you aren't familiar with these guys, some are members of an old 80's metal band called Savatage. They are most noted for their Christmas rock-opera music, and their winter, hoilday tours, but the two cd's above are not Christmas related. Some of the songs have lyrics, but not all.
They are most noted for their renditions of Figaro, Requiem, and Beethovens 5th, and Christmas Eve Sarajevo. Alot of people who have those high speed, computer controlled Christmas light displays choreographed to music, use TSO's music. There are plenty of videos on YouTube if you want to check them out...enjoy.

My hubby took me to see TSO in concert one Christmas. It was amazing. Beethoven's Last Night is one of my favorite albums. I hadn't heard of Night Castle...I'll definitely check that one out!

Hmmm, I listen to a lot of Tycho while I study. Its like the new jazz. Check him out!(Warning: Does not fit any of your criteria, but he's worth a shot)

Thanks for this thread. I've been wanting to put together some music for the treadmill.

Gladiator & The Patriot both come to mind. Braveheart too, if you like bagpipes. "The Chase" from The Man From Snowy River is an excellent piece of music - urgent w/o being dark (TMFSR is a great flick). I'll sift through my movies & see what else fits the bill.

Cool thread! It's interesting to see the vast & varied tastes among this forum's members. :)

Have you heard any X-Ray Dog by chance? They do music for a ton of movie trailers! If I remember correctly, they have done stuff for Harry Potter, Pirates of Caribbean, LOTR, Transformers, and a bunch of other movies. The only problem with them is that it's very hard to find most of their tracks because they do not release their music commercially.

Here are a Two of my favorites:

Gladiator was one of the scores I bought yesterday. :D I also got 300. And Titanic to round out the mushier side of the emotional spectrum. Then Thomas Crown Affair for more lighthearted fare. And then I couldn't resist Night Castle by TSO. I'm set for awhile, but will definitely check out more as time goes and I tire of my new selections.
